Hello everybody,

I'm very happy to join this project. My name is UCHIDA Masatomo. UCHIDA is my family name. I live in Tochigi, which lays 100km north of Tokyo. I'm now recording works of
NIIMI Nankichi in Japanese and put them on my home page.

Hopefully you were not too badly affected by the tsunami.

I am not familiar with that author. In order for works to be public domain, it needs to have been published in 1922 or earlier.

Konnichi-wa Uchida-san, and welcome to Librivox!

It's great that you have found your way here, we do not have many works in Japanese in the catalog, so we can always need more!

I have never heard of Niimi Nankichi before, I will check him out. I hope I can find some of his writings in English, as it will take years until my Japanese is good enough to read it in the original...

The good news: Everything he has written is in the Public Domain, so if you want to record in JAPANESE, we can happily accept it!

For now, please make a short test recording so we can find out if your settings are all right. Once we have straightened out all possible problems, you can record as much as you like.

Now I'm confident Niimi Nankichi's works are in the public domain also in U.S.A.

When I was seeking information about daisy, I encountered this page. I was very surprised.

And I decided to record Niiminankichi's works.

Now I'm using iPad2 on Shinkansen (or Bullet Train). Is it possible to use iPad for recording?

I have a Ubuntu at home. So I can use iPad & Ubuntu for recording.

But I need to learn how to edit before test recording.

Hi,

I was very interested in your statement about using iPad and Ubuntu. I know very little of Apple products. I'm a long time Ubuntu user. I was under the impression (without doing any research

) that Apple required it's own operating system and therefore the iPad would not be compatible with Ubuntu. If I can indeed run Ubuntu on an iPad I'll give them a better look.

My statement was not so clear.

My ubuntu runs on x86-64.

I'm now doing two recording method.
1) Recording on Ubuntu and Editing on Ubuntu.

2) Recording on iPad2 and Transfering to Ubuntu through USB and Editing on Ubuntu.

For the moment the sound quality recorded on iPad2 isn't good. I wonder if it's possible to filter noise and make it acceptable.

Hi Masa-san!

I have listened to "Michiko-san" from the Ipad and to "Uguisubue o fukeba" from Ubuntu.

Unfortunately, as you have noticed yourself, the Ipad picks up too much noise. This is pretty normal if you only use the built-in microphone, and cleaning it can be rather tough.

So, you can keep using your Ubuntu setup. It sounds much cleaner already, and it will be much easier to work from there for further improvements.

In any case, please make a short 1-minute test and upload it here so we can check the technical specifications we require (mp3 file, mono, 128 kbps, 44100 Hz...)

I report several problem.

The system showed Upload Complete.
But it didn't show URL. I saw just green band.
I've just guessed my URL.

Audacity on Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit doesn't work fine.
So I recorded with Audacity on Ubuntu 11.10 32bit.

I'm going to post also on Listners & Editors Wanted.
