I'm new here. Still looking around and checking out information.
Have been really happy to get to listen to the librivox audiobooks.
Thought I might be able to contribute a bit as well.

Hi there Mayawen. Welcome to Librivox.
Did you find all the information you need easily? Wanna give us feedback if you found your way around easily or if you think theres things to improve?

Welcome mayawen! What is your native language? We have several multilingual projects on the go including the Universal Declaraiton of Human Rights here:

http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2595

We are trying to get as many languages as possible. :)

First tip though, is to start small. The weekly poetry is a good place to start:

Have fun! :)

Thanks for your messages posted, anna, Staphan and Starlite!
My native language is Mandarin Chinese, and we speak Taiwanese(Hokkien) here in Taiwan also.

I was thinking about joining the "300 Tang Poems" project, but now I'm
feeling a bit hesitatant. After listening to a few recordings, I found that
I won't be able to perform the way some of the readers do.
Well, I'll give it a try anyway! :) Later...

Librivox is a real cool site. So far I'm still in the middle of "discovering" it.

Need to browse a bit more later.

Nice to meet you all here on-line!

Oh please don't feel intimidated. I'm sure earthcalling would love to have you read for the project! :)

Yes, please do give it a try, Maya! If we can hear it, it's good enough for Librivox ... and for all the technical improvements and experience that can affect a reading -- if there's not someone willing to read out loud in the first place, nothing else matters.

Welcome, and enjoy!
There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!

Also, we're all more than happy to give tips and suggestions on both technical and style/performance issues, so give something a go and ask for feedback!

Nice to have you here! :)

I would indeed be delighted and eternally grateful! And, let's face it, if I can do it... :D

As you've seen, we have both Mandarin and Hokkien versions, so just jump in with whatever you most feel like reading!

Thanks for all your warm welcome and encouragement!
I will be delighted to go it a go.

I do have a question, though. Can kids volunteer here, too?

Well, that'll be great! We have this "du-jing ban" going on in our little
community. FYI, "du-jing ban" is literally translated into classics reading class. We only got started last week. Me and a bunch of kids.
Currently we are reading tang poems.

I think the kids woud be thrilled to have their recordings posted
up here. Cool stuff.

Oh yes, PLEASE!

I can think of nothing better than to have the poems recorded by children. I was thinking of making the point in the catalogue summary that the poems are highly valued today, and that well educated children learn them by heart and recite them; nothing would express that better than to have children read them.

Wonderful!

Thanks!
I am really happy that the children get to join the project.
I'm using quite a lot of the audiobooks at LibriVox, and it's wonderful
that we can also contribute and help out.

When I was a young child, I didn't get to read the classics. Now it's
great for me to go back to the invaluable Chinese classics of
all times and to enjoy reading for pleasure.

Surely the children benefit from "du-jing", but adults do as well.
