Hi!

My name's Maria and I'm from California (the dreadfully hot desert area). I love reading books of any kind or genre (though I do tend to stay away from horrors, westerns, and romances... unless they are somehow all mixed together).

My favorites are Jane Austen, Shakespeare, and basically anything else that mentions swords or duels or sharp objects while still sounding intelligent.

And.......

I can't think of anything else to say except that I can't wait to start reading!

Hi Maria, welcome to LibriVox! I live in CA too -- but in the somewhat cooler coastal desert :) I'm sitting on my back patio with my laptop right now, having just recorded my two chapters of Mansfield Park. Sure is nice out tonight.

We usually recommend starting with a short poem, just to make sure your recording setup doesn't give you problems. Let us know if you have any questions!

Happy reading,
Kara

Kayray gives good advice about starting with something short until you get used to recording. But when you feel ready to tackle something longer, we'd love to have you take a chapter (or more) of Mansfield Park

Welcome! Can't wait to hear your voice. :)

Be sure to check out the Librivox Wiki Page that Kara's linked to in her signature. You'll probably find the Newbie Guide to Recording particularly useful, if you've not done recording before.

Enjoy, and give a holler if you have questions!

Thanks for the welcome! I actually have yet to read Mansfield Park.... But I do have it lying around the house somewhere....

I was just listening to a few of the recordings and I love listening to the variety in people's voices. :D

Great to have you here! I'm also from CA, but again, not the desert part. And I just finished reading Pride and Prejudice (to myself, not aloud), and enjoyed it tremendously. And books about sharp objects - Oooo... :)

KATWAL - Not really. I live in the High Desert where the weather is being very undesert-like right now...

Happy 4th of July, everyone! (in advance, that is)

Also, I was looking at ze catalog... and there's no Emma. :| Is there any chance that it will be recorded in the future?

Yup, yup, we've got a lovely solo project read by Sherry just waiting on a few re-recorded chapters. But there's always room for more Emma!
