Hi, I'm Inka and like Vlooi and Cori I've wandered over here from DP.

I'm not sure yet whether I can contribute, but I find this project interesting, so I signed up. You probably don't want to have Jane Austen read with a german accent, though

Although I was told that my accent is good when talking english - you never know how much of that is flattery and besides, I'm just not a native speaker.

For now, I'm just reading the forums, seeing if I can find my way in here. If I do, maybe there'll be a german project some time...

a) I'm sure people would actively like German-accented Austen, one of the benefits of here is the wide variety of accents used.

b) If there isn't a German project already, start one! How about all that Kafka we've been doing in translation? (Texts here: http://www.uni-bonn.de/~uzs180/kafka/) Or some Maerchen?

Welcome, Inka. I would love to hear your German accent reading Austen, so go claim a chapter if you wish :) We've got a lovely variety of regional dialects and accents to hear and yours will add to the mix.

Welcome, Inka! The different accents are one of the best things about Librivox. Although I keep telling people, especially Alex, that we Californians don't have accents.

Thanks for the welcome! I thought when you talk of 'regional accents' you mean american/british/canadian or the like.

I'll try to find something easy for a start with. Though I'm not a huge fan of Kafka the Brothers Grimm sound like I might be able to tackle them.

If anyone has old German books that are not yet in PG but clearable and can be scanned (fraktur is not a problem) I can offer to shepherd them through Distributed Proofreaders for you. I think I saw something in the Brothers Grimm thread (but I think their fairy tales have already been cleared)...

Vlooi - It'll be great to know the voice to put to the written words of your forum posts/jabbering. I'm waiting eagerly for Northanger Abbey!

Inka, I have a volume of 21 of the Grimms M?rchen, in German, in Fraktur, that's copyright 1903 (thus clear) -- but no time to scan it! I was planning on starting a parallel Grimm-in-German project, but haven't yet posted about it...[/u]

Keep an eye out for "Alphabet of Old Friends" over at DP. I've also promised Emmy a read on "Stuffed Elephant"
