Hello! I've listened to a few LibriVox recordings and got my sisters hooked, and I decided I might help...
I live in New Jersey, but am French, so I hope I can help in both languages.
About actually recording stuff, my computer has a relatively good-sounding integrated speaker, can I use it?
Newbie on the loose

azaliacc,
I haven't been able to get your test file to play. What software did you use to convert it to mp3?

I can't remember.... Now I'm trying to use LameLib, but I can't find the usr in my hardrive (where the FAQ says I should be able to use /usr/local/lib/audacity...) And am currently looking through EVERY file on my computer.... trying to locate it.
I tried re-downloading it, and saving the file in a more convenient location, but audacity would not recognize the libmp3lame.dylib .
This shouldn't be a compatibility error, so I'm at a loss.
Help?

That's what I was using....
I'll use GarageBand instead, mp3 encoding is pre-downloaded there...
does this work?

Your second test file works and sounds great! Excellent reading, good volume, minimal background noise. Bit and sample rates are correct. This file is in stereo. For future recordings, please either set your recording software to mono or you can convert your files to mono when you export to mp3. Other than that, you are ready to go.
