Yay, I'm so happy this exists! I was doing research for a blog post on adding audio to literary magazine sites and came across LibriVox. I'd love to read. I'll go check out what short pieces need a voice, and I'll be happy to add some suggestions as time goes on.
Anybody else from the Boston area?
Hi from Cambridge, Mass.!
Welcome, Whitacre! While not from Boston, I did live there as a child in the 1950's. The first professional baseball game I ever saw was in Fenway. My mother was born in Fitchburg and grew up in Mass.
Check out the Weekly Poetry section. It's a good place to start warming up the speaking muscles, if you will, by tackling something short but sweet.
I think that ChipDoc will soon be opening the next (last?) set of Aesop's Fables. They are also low time commitment and fun to read. These are all good ways to get started.
Regards,
Robert

Welcome to LibriVox, akwhitacre!
Robert's being overly pessimistic. There will be twelve volumes of Aesop's Fables by the time we're done with this project! We've just gotten started on Volume 3, so come on by and claim a few to read. Like the Weekly Poetry selections, they're perfect for getting your feet wet here at LibriVox, since they each take only a minute or two to read.

Chip, we're going to need a whole separate catalog page for Aesop.
Welcome to LV. I've been to Boston a few times and spent some time skiing and at geek camp there. Except for my last business trip there, I've always had bad luck in Mass, so I kindof skirt around it. (frost bite, pneumonia, nail through the foot, broken collar bone)
It's a perfectly enjoyable place, I think the state just has it in for me

Hi akwhitaker! Welcome!
I (mostly) grew up in the Boston area, mostly in Belmont. My parents still live there, and my husband and I go visit them about twice a year. Perhaps we can set up a group reading next Thanksgiving.
I'm curious - what area of Cambridge do you live in? (My parents live literally across the street from McLean Hospital, up on Mill Street in Belmont.)

I'm right by Porter Square. There's a bourgeoning little literary scene here that spills over from Harvard and Davis Sq. Porter's got its own bookstore now, and there are tons of little stores along Mass Ave. that support local artists.

Ok, enough boosterism. Time to check out Aesop's Fables...
