The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans

Summary:
The Epistle to the Romans is one of the letters of the New Testament canon of the Christian Bible. In the words of N.T. Wright, the Book of Romans is "neither a systematic theology nor a summary of Paul's lifework, but it is by common consent his masterpiece. It dwarfs most of his other writings, an Alpine peak towering over hills and villages. Not all onlookers have viewed it in the same light or from the same angle, and their snapshots and paintings of it are sometimes remarkably unalike. Not all climbers have taken the same route up its sheer sides, and there is frequent disagreement on the best approach. What nobody doubts is that we are here dealing with a work of massive substance, presenting a formidable intellectual challenge while offering a breathtaking theological and spiritual vision."

With all due respect: Excuse me, but this post has been here for a week. I want to be patient, to wait for a mod to MC this piece, but I can't help but feel that I hurried to record this in vain. Readers expect a certain turn-over with these things. Why should we hurry to record pieces if they sit collecting dust? Can someone please MC this? Thanks.

Please understand that as much as you are a volunteer, so are the MCs that pick up these projects. Please be patient; your project will get into the catalog.

Not all MCs know how to catalogue Bible works, Sam, (I'm one of the ones who hasn't looked at the naming scheme at all.) So Bible books do tend to take a little longer to be picked up than others.

Also, this will need to be proof-listened before it goes into the catalogue, so that's the next step, really. Do you want some help in crafting a post for the Listeners Wanted forum..?

Before doing that, though, if you could recode the files to be 128Kbps, that would be great, as it's the only format we accept. (They are currently 24kbps which makes them very small, they should be around a Mb per minute.) This is because archive.org, where our files are finally stored and made available to the world, is standardised on 128Kbps, and automagically generates the other files we provide, the OGG, 64kbps and zip files, IF we stock it with 128kbps to start with. Do you have original WAV files from your recordings..? If so, these should be easy to turn into 128kbps MP3s. If your player produces the 24kbps files when recording, then we'll need to convert upwards, but of course the quality won't be so good, then.

Let me know how things stand, and whether you need further help with the encoding or anything else.

Hi, Sam !

I'll MC this project for you.
Will enter it in the database and update the first post with the MW.

Is there any way you can change the bitrate to 128 and frequency to 44100?

The summary is from wikipedia, isn't it?

Heya ezwa!

I PMed Sam about this, and he asked if I could change the file format over ... I was meaning to this evening, but have been up to my eyebrows in coyright stuff. :( Perhaps you could ask if a proof-listener would, since they're downloading the files anyway..?

OK, Sam. The first post is edited.

I've setup a prooflistening thread (so that you know how it can be done) here: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9595

For the filenames, we'll follow this example: romans_#_asv.mp3
As for Galatians and other bible books, it should be bookname_sectionnumber_version.mp3

Examples for the ID3-tags are in the first post (do you know how to enter those?).

Cheers,
Ezwa

Hi Cori!
Well, I was thinking we might change the file format after Pling them so we can edit them at the same time if needed.
We'll see if the PLer's) has(/ve) time or is(/are) willing to do it or I'll do it myself when I have some time.

Cori and Ezwa,

Thanks for your patience with me! I know I have much to learn. I'll try to put your information to good application with the next recordings.

Regards,

Sam

No worries, Sam. One step at a time.

Chapter 1 is listened to. The comments are in the MW (a "you" missing and "cause" read in place of "excuse").

Sam, one word missing in chapter 2 (BTW, do you want the prooflistening to be word perfect? I assumed but don't know really...).
See if you want to leave it as it is or paste it in.

Oh, and there's some background noise throughout the recording (in chapter 1 too, actually), do you want me to try to remove it (I'm far from being the noise cleaning expert around, mind you. So I might end up asking someone else, if ever).

Ezwa,

Do you think the errors detract away from the piece, or draws away attention?

If you'd take a stab at removing the noise, I'd appreciate it. I think that's for Ch 1-8. Ch 9-16 I didn't hear it on. I think I need to replace my microphone cord, it may have caused the sound.

Thanks,

Sam

No, they don't. Do you leave it as it is then?

Ezwa, Let's let this one stand, so long as it falls within the standard accuracy rate for reading. I'll plan to redo the entire set at some point in 128 with diminished background interference. Thanks for your help again!

OK. We leave it as it is.
I've removed my notes in the MW (the NC one is for me to remember to try noise removal).
If I have some more time to prooflisten, I'll do it in the standard fashion.

Cheers,
Ezwa
