The call of Cthulhu, by H. P. Lovecraft (1890 - 1937)

This project can be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/the-call-of-cthulhu-by-h-p-lovecraft/
The worshipers of this ancient horror are still with us, waiting for this terrible being to awake from slumber and take vengeance again on an earth filled with nonbelievers. Lovecraft delves into this eons old cult in the greatest detail of any of his stories about Cthulhu and gives us hints about how it is worshiped and the abominable rituals involved. Creepy. Very creepy. (Summary by phil chenevert)

Well, I will be very strict on pronunciation of the title, but I'll be glad to take DPL.

I did get a chance to listen to the last morning Zoom session and the discussion on PL. I was distracted by other LV stuff, so missed it although I certainly had planned on being there. In being DPL for well over 200 projects, I've run into all sorts of stuff. I'll just leave it at that.

Thank you Larry. Your experience is valuable and you should share it or at least categorize it into 'stuff that works' and stuff' that needs to be fixed', meaning the proof listening concept as used here. I'll bet you have met every combination of BC, reader and MC.

And i will be using the original language of the eldrich ones as taught by cuthulu Itself in an online course. (times are tough and extra money is needed for human sacrifices and extra slimy stuff). Unfortunately the blood vessels of human throats always rupture in the first minute, but I'll give it a try anyway.

OK, the whole story is ready. Larry, remind me never to try to read another story by this man. Now I'm not sure why I wanted to record this because his prose has all the grace of a pregnant walrus tap dancing. An extremely well educated walrus, granted, but nevertheless a walrus.
EDIT: I forgot that I have already committed to recording The Colour out of Space.

Very good. Well, I'll check my dance card and see if I have room for a pregnant walrus.
Have a few extra appointments this week, and my root canal this morning is going to take another visit . . .

It;s called maintenance Larry; the never ending battle of keeping our bodies from falling apart. I was at the VA this morning and making a list of all the things i need to have fixed from new hearing aids to dental problems. Now my back hurts. Sorry about your root canal needing more fixing.

Yep, it is getting to be that way.

Anyway, Section 1 is PL OK, and I'm halfway through Section 2.

You might want to check out the closing silence. I hear strange beasts.

Oh, your command of the language is impressive -- maybe the best part of this book.

That is reassuring to hear. This was the most challenging read I've ever done; it just refused to flow in my mind and assumed it sounded awkward and forced to others. Gee, maybe I'm just getting tired and crabby. :D

A few notes for Section 3.
Editing of gaps is your option, of course, but thought you might like to take a listen

00:13 - 00:17 long gap
13:51 slight stumble on "unendurable to me"
22:24 -22:28 long gap
23:39 - 22:39 another gap to look at

Yes! those were odd long gaps indeed. I think I fixed them all but who knows? Chuthulu knows!

So much for the green, gelatinous immensity and the green sticky spawn of the stars . . . .

All PL OK now!

Thank you Larry. Wow, I am impressed you can spell gellatinanous, cuz i sure can't. May you rest easy in your bed tonight. Oh, and here's a free hint; if the image of an 80 ton blob of alien malevolent goo disturbs you, try this trick; my mom used to make jello with chunks of fruit in it, so I picture Chuthulu with lots of little pineapple and cherries and bannana slices floating around inside and he isn't so scary any more. Actually kinda delicious. 8-)
