[COMPLETE] American Myths and Legends, Volume 1, by Charles M. Skinner-mtf
The problem is not with your suggestions but with my stupid neophyte's unfamiliarity with Audacity.
If this trial has not fixed it I will just have to try recording the whole thing again.

PL ok! This was a neat story. But I think my favorite thing about it was the repeated occurrence of the name "Passamaquoddy!" I only know this name from the old Pete's Dragon movie. Never knew it was a real place!alanmapstone wrote: ↑July 4th, 2022, 1:40 am Section 3

The text suggests to me that Passamaquody was the name of a Native American tribal group rather than a place, although there is a Passamaquody Bay in Maine.mightyfelix wrote: ↑July 8th, 2022, 12:35 pmPL ok! Thank you, Devorah. The line about the Spaniards stood out for me as well. I did not know that their marksmanship left much to be desired!mightyfelix wrote: ↑July 9th, 2022, 11:00 am85: (The best line in this section was "..they aimed no better than Spaniards." I do have a couple of tips on posting links, things to keep in mind for next time. First, don't attempt to type out the links to your uploads. It is too much work for you, and is too prone to error. I am only guessing, of course, that you may have done this, because the link you posted above has an o in place of a 0, and when I clicked it, I realized that it does not point to a file at all. In other words, I realized that you did indeed use the correct file name when you uploaded (good job! ), but then posted an incorrect link.
The best and easiest way to make sure that your link is good when you post it is to right-click on the link that shows up in the uploader, then click "Copy link address." Then you can paste that in the thread.
My last note to think about for next time is on the run time, or duration of the file. I'm not sure where you are finding the run time you've been posting, but I don't think it's accurate. For instance, the last file you uploaded is coming out at 8:03 for me, whereas you've given 7:58. The one before that was 8:07, but you said 7:43. I'm not really sure where this discrepancy is coming from, but I mention it so that you can be aware for next time.
And by the way, I truly do hope there will be a next time. I really enjoyed listening to your section and want to hear more from you! You may be feeling like it was a huge trial to get through this one section, but now that you are past the first humps, this should get much easier!
Thanks again for all of your help!
I will take your suggestions to heart.
I do hope to record more. I saw your post about orphans.
Perhaps if you find any you can let me know?
The timing is a problem. Am I supposed to time the actual story
or the story plus the disclaimers? And do I include the time of the silent
parts too?
Yes, it has been a steep learning curve for me. I am new to Audacity (formerly
used only wav) and I am (for your information only) a nonagenarian at 93.
Well I guess that's not a secret after all. Anyone can google me and discover
my birth date in 1928. That puts me in the public domain too, doesn't it?
I will take your suggestions to heart.

Almost! You will be public domain in just a year and a half, as soon as 2024 rolls around!LaurieB wrote: ↑July 9th, 2022, 11:46 am Thanks again for all of your help!

The time should be the whole entire recording, including all silences and disclaimers. The computer doesn't make a distinction between silence and speech when calculating the length of a recording, so we don't either.

Too much opening silence. Cut about 0.5-1 second off from the very beginning.
While you're at it, maybe also chop a second or so off the ending silence.
69: (Ooh, another creepy one. I liked it!)
Again, cut about half a second to one second from the opening silence and another second from the end.

Hi mightyfelix. Boosted volume by 3 dB. Also added slightly more quiet space in a couple places, where I thought transition was too abrupt. 2:57 long.
Glad I could participate in this book.
The unexpected twist at the end of this one was hilarious!
We just need to bring the volume up by about 3 dB.
