Thanks, Amanda! This should get PL'd tomorrow - I got a lot of long files in today from other projects, so everything is queued in order of submission. :)

I love that you did the Irish pronunciations, and thank you for the guide.

This is beautifully recorded, Amanda :) No edits in the reading itself needed at all.

The one thing that needs an easy fix is that the end silence is at least 8 seconds long. Can you please snip that off at 5 seconds and upload the new mp3? (don't forget to note the new track time)
Thanks :)

I'd like to read "The Baker's Dozen" from the "Myths and Legends of Our Own Land - colonial and early U.S" second on the Google Doc!

I'd like to claim the story "Baldur" and the story "Thor Fighting the Serpent" from the "Asgard Stories: Tales from Norse Mythology" novel. Please let me know if this is acceptable.

Hi, Ashyia! Welcome to LibriVox :)

No, you're fine - collections like this project run a little differently from "normal" LibriVox group projects. You do get to just submit your recording.

For those other ones, though, where you're supposed to request a section before doing it, you do always want to wait for verification from the project's BC before you do the recording. If you don't, mixups can happen and people get upset.

PL Notes for "The Baker's Dozen"

Your story is very nicely read - terrific addition for our project!
The volume is way too low, though, so it needs to be amplified. Can you please do that, raising it by 10 with the Amplification effect (assuming you're using Audacity)?

Once that is done, it will need to have Noise Reduction run on the track. I would recommend using the numbers 12, 6, 3 in the boxes (from top to bottom). If you're not familiar with using Noise Reduction yet, holler at me and I'll help you learn that. :)

After editing the track, export it to mp3 again and upload it again. . . and post here with the link and the track duration. You'll always include the length of a track when you post a recording link to a project. :) Typically typed like this: (3:52)

And then, for your future recordings, increase your recording volume so that your files are in the decibel range that LibriVox uses.

Glad to have you onboard!

Oh! P.S. We have to make your Reader Page to be able to officially assign your story to your name. What name do you want us to use on that? It is the page that public listeners will see when they look at the audiobook in the Catalog. Some of use our real name, others use their forum boards name, and others make up another psuedonym. Just let me know what name you want on yours. :)

Those stories are great! Keep in mind that each reader is allowed to submit two stories per collection, so one of these is perfect for Collection 11, but the other one needs to wait and be submitted for Collection 12. Collection 12 will open very soon after this one gets its 12th story.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Yes, I am using Audacity. I have the amplification effect done now, but I am not familiar yet with how to perform the Noise Reduction effect. Could you explain to me how to do that please? Thanks again!

Certainly! (plus, I want to make sure that you see the P.S. I put on my PL Note for you)

Noise Reduction is a two-step process. It is great at cleaning out background noise so your recording is clean and clear, but you do need to watch out how strongly you apply it, because if you do it too much, it will distort your record so that it starts sounding tinny, and even like space monkeys are invading your reading!

Open your recording file, and then:
  • Zoom the track bigger so you can easily highlight the ending silence period. (Just click and drag your mouse across that stretch.)
  • In the Effects Menu, select "Noise Reduction"
  • Click on "Get Noise Profile"
  • Now click Control-A to highlight the entire track.
  • Re-open the Noise Reduction effect and for now use these numbers:
    Noise Reduction: 12
    Sensitivity: 6
    Frequency smoothing: 3
  • Click OK
