If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Nice to see you picked up some Carpenter :D do you have a DPL already in mind? If not, I'd like to DPL for you.

Yessir, Jake, please do pling. Thanks for your bibliography, where this book showed up, along with Carpenter's poems.... I found an indication that no copyright is registered on this one, so I think it's fair game.

This is only my second solo. Do I need an MC? How do I get one?

I'm dividing the sections in an unconventional way. Very short for preface, notes, appendices, long for chapters. If anyone has comments on this method, now's the time.

Great. Look forward to PL'ing for you. I think do your sections as you wish - if it makes sense to you, it'll probably make sense to others.
An MC will come along soon, they will comment in this thread and then set up the Magic Window for you, so you can fill it in with your sections (titles, page numbers etc).

It's fair game, since it was published more than 95 years ago. :)

The MC sets up the Magic Window and catalogs the final files, and you upload to the MC's uploader folder. So yes - you need an MC. ;) You get one by posting your project here in the Launch Pad and waiting for one to come along.

"Long" shouldn't be longer than about 74 minutes, so the file can fit on an audio CD if someone wants to burn it to CD. Otherwise, you can group the chapters and other parts however you like. :)

I'll MC this for you. Be back in a bit with the MW...

A couple of notes:

1) I've uploaded first 2 sections, not sure I got the Listen URL right. It's the same as this:

https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/dayswithwhitman_02_carpenter_128kb.mp3

28min 54s

2) I changed the filename to shorten it by taking out 'Walt'

3) Turns out there are only 7 sections, I think. Notes and appendices are other than I thought. We can leave the 8th section blank in the MW for now, just in case! (counting doesn't seem to be one of my strengths)

Thanks! ready to go!

oops! I see the section numbers start with 0, I guess because of the preface. Can we change this to match the recording numbers, where the preface is section 1?

Please do put the file length mm:ss in the Notes field. That way I can easily check them at cataloging time (comparing them to what displays over at Archive, to make sure there's nothing wrong with the files).

Wow, Czandra, what a great start! You're over halfway through already

Section 1 is PL OK!
Section 2 is PL ok!

Section 3 - I have two requests
- At about 10:30, the word "features" is repeated twice. That's a quick fix, just delete one.
- At about 14:14 the phrase "which impressed him most" is repeated twice. Again, just delete one of them.
Once you have made those two edits, just reupload and I'll spot PL them.

Section 4 is PL OK!

It was a real pleasure to listen to these sections, Czandra. I must say - I'm not much familiar with Walt Whitman, but after these sections I am now compelled to add "Leaves of Grass" to my reading list.
Carpenter described Whitman with such adoration and seemed to really get to the root of his personality. It's well noted that they had a physical relationship at one time, so he probably came as close to understanding Whitman as any could.

Looking forward to the rest!

Thanks Jake. You're quick too! Of course I take on small projects, not, say the entire history of music!

And thanks for mentioning context for Whitman too.
