The English poet Ivor Gurney wrote these poems while serving in the First World War. In them he contrasts the wartime desolation of the area around the River Somme in northern France with the natural beauty of the valley of the River Severn in his native Gloucestershire. (Summary by Alan Mapstone)

I was thinking of doing this as a solo but I will launch it as a group project to see if anyone else want to join in. If necessary I am prepared to read most of the poems myself as they are mostly only short.

I have a particular liking for these poems because, like the poet, I grew up in the Severn Valley area.

An MC and a DPL would be most welcome.

Hi Alan! Let me MC this wonderful collection of poems! I'll go set it up.

What do you think about using the short poetry disclaimer/intro for the poems?

Thank you :D

I have actually specified the short poetry disclaimer for all except the Preface which I will read myself anyway.

I'm not very much a fan of "section 0" so I changed that to "preface" Let me know what you think, though, as it's your project!

May I serve as the DPL ?

Thank you for offer to DPL
I can PL some myself if necessary.
I am happy with your revised intro for the Preface.
I think the last 2 sections can be removed.

If a female American voice is OK for some of these (I quite understand if it isn't), may I read sections 5 and 38, "Afterwards" and "Trees"?
Back from a low-internet no-Librivox year in Georgia. Glad to be with you again.

Hi Larry
I have assigned you 6, 22 & 37, but 25 I had already assigned to myself. I have guessed that you may have meant 26 and have assigned that instead. If that is not right let me know and I will change it. :hmm:
