there is a big difference in volume in many parts, some are too low and some much higher. What I practiced early on is watching my audiowaves in Audacity while recorded, and immediately when there is a peak, I re-record that part with a more "level" voice. With practice it gets easier to keep a relative similar volume throughout one recording and then it's easy to amplify it all withouth clipping.bgarretson wrote: ↑August 18th, 2021, 12:41 pmHi, I used noise reduction but the numbers might have been to high. I don't remember what they were the first time, but I have edited the recording and hope it is better now.
I also used 6 dB of noise reduction with a sensitivity of 6 and 3 bands on the entire recording.
I use:
Careful with the frequency smoothing, possibly that was the reason why it was distorted. The noise reduction of 6 was probably not enough for your background noise however.Noise reduction: 12
Sensitivity: 6
Frequency smoothing: 0
yes now it sounds more fluent and apart from "nuptials" where I still hear "nupitals" (but I may be mistaken by my ears) all seems ok. The sound is not the best, but it's understandable, so we can let it pass. I trust your future recordings probably will be better with a more mellow noise cleaning (you should have heard my first recordings, they didn't sound much better and I've learnt a lot now to make it sound better)I cut the long silences to be shorter, amplified the quiet beginnings of sentences, and added four seconds of silence to the end.
could be, or maybe some noise in the vicinity (close the windows ) Anyway, usually Audacity can clean the noise quite well if you get a good sampleI apologize for the excessive background noise, I don't know what caused that. It may just be the microphone I was using.
the filename is now a bit wrong (no _ between rover and 0121) but that's ok, no need to reupload, I'll change it now in my folder since I will mark it PL ok. But careful with the filenames, best always to copy/paste the example in the first post and only change the section number, then you can't go wrongHere is the edited recording:

Thanks, and good luck with your next recording. I hope you liked the whole process. I can assure you, it will get better and easier with each recording. You had a long section to start out with, I had my debut with short one-minute poems, which were much easier

wow a cool story and I researched this now on wikipedia, it's all a true story and Grisel even later on wrote some poems. Maybe I should read one of her poems for a collection once.GregGiordano wrote: ↑August 18th, 2021, 7:05 pmHere is Section 8 - Sir Patrick Hume:

Excellently narrated, Greg, as always, thank you so much. It's perfectly PL ok.

Thank you, Sonia. I appreciate you sharing it was a true story. The collection of poems does sound interesting. If you decide to record them please let me know. I would love to listen. Grizel definitely was the heroine of the story, almost from the first.Kitty wrote: ↑August 19th, 2021, 9:45 amwow a cool story and I researched this now on wikipedia, it's all a true story and Grisel even later on wrote some poems. Section 11 is straight PL ok, but I have a few notes to correct for Section 10:
> at the beginning: we recommend between 0.5 and 1 second of silence, not more, as it would feel long for a listener to start. Could you cut the silence down to one second please ?
> at 3:08: "the following letter was written by M. Necker: the minister of finances was called Jacques Necker, so this M. is not the initial of his first name, therefore it must mean "Monsieur" or "Mister" if you prefer (more about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Necker)
> at 4:14: "and thank M. Necker" - same here
> at the end: here we need a standard of 5 seconds of silence, so that it won't stop too abruptly. Could you add 3 more seconds please ?
thanks

Only one small note still:
> from 4:44 to 4:49: between "filial piety" and "end of section 10": now you inserted 5 seconds of silence here as well, this wasn't here before. That is a bit too much, I would also suggest leaving only maximum 1.5 seconds here. The 5 seconds of silence that I meant in my previous PL notes should be all at the end of the file. I see you have them correct now.
One last upload please ?

Hi!
I am so sorry for the delay, it being monsoon season here, the rain was a constant background noise making it difficult to record, and then I got caught up in things elsewhere. Apologies for that.
Here is section 3 - https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/rover0121_03_various_128kb.mp3
Duration - 23:49
Let me know of the corrections to be made.

no worries, you were still inside your deadline I'm happy that you managed to finish earlier, so this project can get catalogued now.
A very funny story and I loved especially when you showed Tuttle's outrage over the deacon when he realizes how he tricked him. Well done in the dialogues.
Thank you so much, it's absolutely PL ok.
And so we have reached the end of another Rover issue.
My hearty thanks for all the wonderful readers in this issue:
Alan, bgarretson, Kriti, Jim, Greg and EsoFlair
Launching cataloguing process now and will post link once it's through
Sonia

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/rover-01-21-by-various/
