On The High Price Of Fish, by William Cowper (1731 - 1800)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/on-the-high-price-of-fish-by-william-cowper/
LibriVox volunteers bring you __ recordings of On The High Price Of Fish, by William Cowper.<br>
This was the Weekly Poetry project for June 6, 2021. <br> ------<br>
Here we have a silly poem this week by William Cowper, an English poet, and hymnodist. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th-century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. (Summary by Wikipedia)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.
Project Code: dzrqWEKM

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

LibriVox recording settings: mono (1 channel), 44100 Hz sample rate, 128 kbps constant bit rate MP3. See the Tech Specs

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
On The High Price Of Fish by William Cowper, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
Cocoa-nut naught,
Fish too dear,
None must be bought
For us that are here:

No lobster on earth,
That ever I saw,
To me would be worth
Sixpence a claw.

So, dear madam, wait
Till fish can be got
At a reas'nable rate,
Whether lobster or not;

Till the French and the Dutch
Have quitted the seas,
And then send as much
And as oft as you please.
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Narise Mangan (01:01)
Welcome to LibriVox Narise :D good first reading - just a cou0le of comments on your file..
- the filename should be all in lowercase (initials also)
- the volume is low at 83.1 dB, (with a noticeable background hum - Effect / Noise Reduction in Audacity will reduce that)
*You should aim for your waveforms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:

Image

You can check your volume using our Checker program - see info at http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker You will find the volume in decibels on the Information tab. For your information, we look for around 89 dB (87-91 is OK) (all the other tech specs are there also)
Please use the same filename when you upload your edited file. :D

*Please let me know under what name you would like to appear in the LV catalog and if you have one, we can put your personal URL link on your catalog page.
You can view your brand new LV Catalog page by clicking your forum name in the Magic Window.

Welcome to LibriVox Miranda :D , good first reading.. although I hear what we call 'plosives, breath noises into the mic. You can try angling the mic away from your mouth a bit to reduce this, watching your volume of course.

I would like to appear under the name: Miranda Rumph.

I will try moving the mic for the plosives too; I had noticed them myself.
