Hi!
I'd like to read "Lot no. 249" by Arthur Conan Doyle. Here's the link:

I'd like to add a short tale to this project. "The Pale Man" by Julius Long. Has it been narrated yet? Thank you.

By all means! Take into account, however, that it is about 13000 words, so you'll probably need to split it in two recordings.
There's an audiobook of this in the catalogue (divided in 3 sections), so you may as well add your own solo version if you choose to. Or of course, your contribution will be more than welcomed in the collection - to save you from the complications of launching your own project, etc. Your choice!

Hi, Amanda! Welcome here! This was published in 1934, so it is not automatically in the public domain (this year's cutoff is 1925 and earlier). I don't have the means to ascertain if their copyright was renewed or not. If you can find it in Gutenberg.org as public domain, then you could read it from there (gutenberg.org has a legal team for copyright clearance). Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Oh I see. Thank you. Would "Lost Hearts" from Title: Ghost Stories of an Antiquary
Author: M. R. James be acceptable? I found the book on Gutenberg.org, as you recommended, but I am not certain is public domain. I believe it is. Just unsure of myself. Thanks for your help.

"Lost Hearts" is quite popular in this collection :D It'll be great to have your version, too! Most of the books in Gutenberg.org are public domain. On each book page, further down, it shows the copyright status. If it says "Public domain in the USA", then it's safe for Librivox

I would gladly add my own version, though if you would like more variety I am open to making another selection. Have all of the short stories from that collection been read already? Perhaps I can choose one that hasn't.

The stories in that book have all been recorded before, and some multiple times. My suggestion is to start with a story you especially like, regardless of whether it's been done before or not. I think it shows in the reading when it's something you enjoy!
You can use the search box in the Home Page: https://librivox.org/ to search titles in the catalogue, but as I said, don't worry if something's been done before, except as a confirmation that since it's been done before it definitely is in the public domain

This took a little longer to record than I anticipated. Every time I read the title, my mind would start singing the song...

Anyway, enjoy

I need some help. I'm using Audacity. I had to stop recording to go do something, and now when I try to record, the software freezes up and refuses to respond. I don't know what the problem is. Even when it doesn't, I'm unable to record any audio. The red recording bar just stays in place. I tried closing the software and opening it back up but I've been unable to get it to do any new recording. I can still play back the audio I have already recorded, but I can't add anything to the file.

Hello, Dale and Colleen! Both recordings are PL OK! Thank you! :9:
When I saw Dale's post, I wondered if the author might have been some relative of Colleen's. Then soon after, Colleen posted, and I thought how funny it would be if her story was by someone called Grothmann

I would suggest saving your file, and then rebooting your computer completely. Or have you already tried that?
