Pnagami has very kindly consented to PL.

To whichever MC has the unenviable task of adding a new author to the catalogue, I found her dates in the collection I'm reading from:
https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uiug.30112063809716&view=1up&seq=8

And if it will help, a short bio:
Elinor Jenkins was a British poet.

I haven't found very much about her at all. As far as I know this volume represents all the poems she published.

Good grief, I've just seen that I didn't include the link to the text in the first post. The first post has been duly updated.

Thank you, Pam!

Setting this up.

Thank you for the author info... it's not difficult to add an author to the database, but we do tend to get the dreaded "spinning wheel" so it's an exercise in patience 8-)

Ahh, the test of patience... well, thank you for taking it on, and I hope you got to go make a nice cup of tea while it was chugging along adding the author!

Hi Erin,

Sections 0-7 are PL OK.

Sad story to die so young of influenza, with many poems unwritten.

Hi Pam,

Sections 8-11 are ready for PL. I'm assuming your reader can download the pdf from Archive when that's the text being used and keep your place, but with Hathi texts does it remember where you left off PLing the last time? If it doesn't, then use the link below.

Hi Pam,

Sections 13-16 and 18 are ready for PL.

Her death was during the third wave of influenza, if wiki is to be believed, but I don't know for certain if that's what killed her. I haven't tried to order her death certificate. It's a shame she's not better known, though.

Hi Erin,

Sections 14-16 and 18 are PL OK.

She probably died of flu. Young adults were very susceptible.

Hi Pam,

Sections 12, 17 and 19 are ready for PL. Of course you're absolutely right about Jenkins being in the wrong age bracket for the flu. I was just being cautious and assuming that 'regular' causes of mortality like being knocked down by a vehicle or heart problems didn't go away, even for younger, more at-risk people. I suppose what this is proving is how little of her biography is readily available.

Hi Erin,

Sections 12, 17, and 19 are PL OK.

Jenkins was 27--actually peak susceptibility to the 1918 flu.

Hi Pam,

You're right (you're always right!). I've probably been too cautious instead of thinking that her age (she was actually 26) means it was flu. This is one of those instances when I should just follow your instinct honed over years of experience instead of waiting for confirmation of every single detail!

Sections 21-25 are ready for PL. The image of poppies in the UK commemoration of WWI is very, very different now. I don't remember reading anything this dark and bitter before.
