Adaptation, by Mack Reynolds (1917 - 1983)

This project is in our catalog at https://librivox.org/adaptation-by-mack-reynolds/

Volunteers outside the USA: Mack Reynolds died in 1983. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
"Hardly had man solved his basic problems on the planet of his origin than he began to fumble into space. Barely a century had elapsed in the exploration of the Solar System than he began to grope for the stars.

And suddenly, with an all but religious zeal, mankind conceived its fantasy dream of populating the galaxy. Never in the history of the race had fervor reached such a peak and held so long. The question of why was seemingly ignored. Millions of Earth-type planets beckoned and with a lemming-like desperation humanity erupted into them." from Forward (Summary by author)

Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello Phil,
I am a touch confused with pling your sections...

I see by the mw that there are 6 sections with this book, the book goes to XII.

I have downloaded & listened to section 1 which sounds wonderful though it ends according to the text, 24749-h.htmon, at III.

Please do let me know what is happening & thank you. I do feel a touch rattled on this...

So sorry for the confusion. I like to have each finished lv track be between 20 and 40 minutes long for the benefit of listeners and so divide the book based on this criteria. It is almost impossible to do this by combining the various divisions in this story so I made the breaks based on length and ended with six sections. I tried to make the breaks as logical as possible but can't always succeed. Again I apologize for the confusion. I will send you a link to the Google doc I made showing the parts clearly. A soloist and Book Coordinator has a lot of discretion in setting up their projects.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PENnuGstkwoypgqu5PcRM9KEmlcbrk4EubaDSPa0RB4/edit?usp=sharing

Part one starts on page 1 and ends on page 9
Part two starts on page 9 and ends on page 19
Part three starts on page 19 and ends on page 28
Part four starts on page 28 and ends on page 37
Part five starts on page 37 and ends on page 45
Part six starts on page 45 and ends on page 64

please ask if you need more clarification and thanks again for being my DPL.

Phil,
Thank you for the reply & now I understand better what you have done.
My computer does not show the page numbers with the google doc.
Therefore, up to my discretion, it is with my most sincere apologies that I give this back.

No problem at all. Thank you for what you have done already and I apologize for any difficulties this has caused you. Have a wonderful time in LibriVox and I hope to see you around the forums soon.

EDIT: I jus realized that if you would like I could make my recordings match the parts of the story as numbered. It would be 14 sections. No too complicated. That way you could follow along on the Gutenberg text just fine. Anyway, let me know. If you wish to withdraw, that's fine and if you would like me to reorder the sections, that would be fine also. I am cool either way, as long as I get to enjoy the story.

I have pled a previous thread where the sections were similar to one of the ways you have mentioned.

"recordings match the parts of the story as numbered
. That way you could follow along on the Gutenberg text "
If you do not mind setting it up that way, I am still your dpl.

Great April. I will fix things tonight and let you know when the sections are correct.
EDIT: There are 12 parts, not 14.

Yay! I think I have it in the proper order now. Parts 1 thru 7 are in the magic window. Please let me know if any of them don't start at the proper place, but I think I have them in the right order. You have already listened to Chapters 1 thru six. Again, thank you for your patience.

This was written at the height of the cold war and I think he puts his finger on the strengths and weaknesses of both free enterprise and communism. Ah, this takes me back. :?
