Hello,
Thanks for the comments! I added the missing parts and fixed the target range.

Section#16 Duration: 4:15 minutes
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/americanbeejournaloct1870_16_various_128kb.mp3

Section#17 Duration: 4:08 minutes
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/americanbeejournaloct1870_17_various_128kb.mp3

Please let me know if I have to fix anything else.
Thank you.
I've marked these Ready for Spot PL.
Sec 16 PL notes:

01:16 – a burst of sound

Moreover, I don`t remember it to be in the file the previous time, but there is a constant little white noise now all the audio long. I suppose that some people will not hear it at all and some other people will not consider it to be a problem, but I sincerely advise you to try to remove it, if it will be possible for you.
However, I believe it will not be an obstacle for a PL OK.

Sec 17 PL notes:
The volume falls outside of the target range (86–92 dB); now is 85.1 dB.
I advise you to use the Checker 0.96 by yourself to check your own recordings. It`s very simple and useful!

Cheers & blessings! 🌞
Hi
Can you please tell me what the Checker 0.96 is and how can I install it?
Thanks

Hi
Can you please tell me what the Checker 0.96 is and how can I install it?
Thanks

This might help:

Here are two programs that I use to adjust the volume of recordings:

1. CHECKER
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker

This little program was written specifically for LibriVox, and is very easy to use.
Just drag your file to the Checker window, and it will quickly check it for all LibriVox specifications and give you a report.

One of the measurements is the volume in decibels. Use the Amplify feature under the Effect menu in Audacity to adjust the volume, by setting the value to plus or minus to bring the recording close to the LV target of 89 dB.

2. ReplayGain
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity

This article will introduce you to ReplayGain, which is a plugin specifically for Audacity. There is a link to download it and a link to a tutorial on how to use it. Once installed, it is easy to use. Depending on your version of Audacity, it will appear either in the Analyze menu or the Effects menu. ReplayGain can be selected to analyze the recording, giving a reading of how many decibels, plus or minus, that the recording is off from the target. It is then easy to use the Audacity Amplify feature to make the adjustment before exporting the file.

Thank you for working in these.

But, I very puzzled at the large difference in the file length for these. Both of these are almost 25% shorter! Did you just correct the volume, or are these new recordings? If they are new recordings they will need another full PL, but that is still quite a difference.

We'll continue to work with you, but let us know what is going on.

Hi
I did record the whole thing again. I wasn't sure how to insert/correct only part of the recording.
If working on the old recording is better, I can look for some video to teach me how to insert in between the recording.

Please let me know.
Thanks

OK, I'll mark these for a full PL then.

Yes, it is best just edit a recording rather than to do a new one.
These are short, so not a big deal. I will do that sometimes on something short if I need to.

I think one of the things that doesn't get communicated well up front is that editing is a huge part of the total process. I remember recording my first poem so many time trying to get it perfect.

Things like volume, background noise, etc. are easy to edit, or if there is a repeat or something to cut out, that is easy. If there is something that needs to be recorded, it is more involved.

Just a few tips. It is always better to record an entire phrase or sentence rather than a word or two. Try to have as close to the same recording set-up, etc to get a closer match and try to maintain the same cadence and pacing, and adjust for volume. Copy the new recording, then highlight what you are replacing and paste. Then listen and make any spacing or volume adjustments.

Here is a link to the wonderful video tutorials by our own Phil Chenevert. He has several on editing that may be useful to you. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Instructional_Videos

Just holler if you have more questions. We're all here to help. :D
Glad to have you with us. :9:

Hello! My schedule has popped off this last month, and I'm not going to be able to get this recording completed in a timely manner. Can I have these unassigned from me?

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi Lisa! 🌺

Sec 14 PL notes:

~ 2.3 sec at the beginning; there might be no more than 1 sec;
00:43 – some unneeded seconds of silence
06:22 - a queen from Mr. Colvin for fifteen dollars, tested – I hear - a queen from Mr. Colvin for fifty dollars, tested

PS:
03:45 – absolutely adorable “as soon as”) (not to be corrected, obviously) 😸

The rest is OK. Thank you! 💛
