Hi Barry,
They are usually read and add a bit of intrigue to the opening. But like you said, they are a blurb by the magaizine, so I think it is fine to omit them if they bother you.
Thanks,
-Amy

Story url: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/64696/64696-h/64696-h.htm
duration: 13:28

Haven't posted for a couple of months. Hopefully I can get into more of a routine and do this more frequently.

Barry
Thanks Barry, that is a good story.

There are several background noises that need to be addressed. Most are during silence between sentences and easily correctable.

Chair creaking 2:56, 4:08, 6:19, 7:06,

7:21, 13:06 some kind of bump during dialog

8:46 scratching noise.

12:16 bump

James
James,

I've uploaded a version with the corrections, which can be found at:

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/ssf078_unwelcometenant_dee_bkh_128kb.mp3

All other details are the same.

Barry
Thanks Barry,

Much improved, it is PL OK

Thank you Melinda,

Technical issue, Volume is low at 83.6db should be between 86 and 92. With Audacity, applying the effect 'Reply Gain...' usually fixes this. Please correct and resubmit, nothing else needs to be changed.

There are links to help with recording issues in the opening post of this collection

I can very slightly hear some dog barking in the background in a couple of places example at 16:21. I don't think you need to try and fix this, just be aware of background noises in future recordings.

You did good with the voices, You seem a little rushed with the reading in a couple of places. But over all a good tempo. I enjoyed your reading of the story more then when I had read it to myself.

Rohan,

You have a number of technical issues that need to be address. I did not listen to your recording yet, I will do a full PL when a file with the technical corrections is submitted

* The bit Rate should be 128kpbs, you have 122
* It should be in Mono, not Stereo
* It should use a constant bit rate not a variable bit rate
* The volume is low at 84.4DB it should be between 86-92

You may want to consider looking into the Checker App, it will help you identify and address these issues before submitting your recording. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker

James
Here is the revised version.

Rohan, you still have a technical issues. The volume is low at 85.4 should be between 86 and 92db

Your editing is a little over aggressive.

* Example "The Gun" both times in your opening statement, has only half of the T sound, additionally it seems like you copied and pasted it into both places as they both have the same clipped sound.

* Example 1:09 - 1:11 The book says "He saw a vast expanse" your recording says "ast expanse"

* Example 1:46 - 1:48 The book says ""I wonder what the atmospheric sample will show," your recording says ""hat the atmospheric sample will show,"

The missing words, and sentences starting in the middle of a word, make this difficult to listen to.

Please proof listen your submission, and correct these and any other glaring errors before submitting.

I did not proof listen beyond 1:48

Hi James,

Thank you for the feedback. I recorded it again on Audition (I am more familiar with it) and did some editing and sent it through the Checker app.

Hopefully, all is well!

Thanks Mike,

Your experience at recording shows.

Just one minor technical issues. Could you increase the opening silence to 1 second? You have less then half a second

James.
