Thank you, TN! Welcome to the Poetry Collection! :D

The only technical issue here is that the volume is a bit quieter than desired. Will you be able to amplify by 5dB? (then noise-clean if needed)
In this poetry collection we use the abbreviated disclaimer intro. Details in the first post, but basically it's "[Poem title], by [author], read for LibriVox dot org by [your name]" (the "by [your name]" is optional). There are various ways to make the fix. What I do is record the correct bit in a new file, then paste that where I need it in the original file, deleting the wrong bit. Then I adjust volume to match the rest of the recording and noise-clean if needed.

Is there a specific name you'd like to be credited by as a Reader in the Catalog (e.g. "TN") or your forum-name will do?

Thank you for this recording, as well! :9: The same issues here, volume and intro, if you could fix those by amplifying by 5dB and switching to the short intro.

Thank you! Very emotional poem!
Again to fix volume (amplify by 7dB) and intro. Also a couple of stumbles.
One is at 1:57 "in the woo- in the cold". I would fix that by deleting "the woo- in" part so that the "in the cold" remains. This may sound like advanced editing, but when you do it once or twice, it'll become simple, and soon enough second nature! Assuming you use Audacity, here's how to do it: zoom in around 1:55 and 2:00, highlight with your mouse the portion that says "the woo- in" (you can see the similarity of the sound wave for the "the" sound, so you start to highlight at the first "the" and stop just before the second "the") press Z on the keyboard (that's the shortcut to center at Zero crossings), then press C on the keyboard to listen to how the edit will sound. If it sounds right, you can press "Delete" in the keyboard to the delete the highlighted part and then you'll have the correct line remaining
And another stumble is at 3:22 "I shall now -- I shall not now lie with the heroes". This is an easier fix. You just delete the "I shall now" part.

The time-stamps at 1:57 and 3:22 are for the current recording. They may change a bit while you're editing.

Since volume seems to be a general issue, I would suggest using the Checker tool, to check your volume and adjust as needed, before uploading. Also check if you can increase your microphone's input volume so that you record closer to desired range. Here's info on the Checker https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker :D

Hi mari! Welcome to the poetry collection!

Here are a few things to adjust for your recording setup.
The sampling rate should be 44.1 kHz (44,100 Hz). It is currently 16,000 Hz. Assuming you use Audacity: To fix this for your future recordings, go to menu Edit -> Preferences, go to the Quality tab, and, where it says Sampling, choose "44100 Hz" for Default Sample Rate, and "16-bit" for Default Sample Format. Click OK and the settings will work for your future recordings.

To fix current recordings (for both recordings), make sure you have the Selection Toolbar on (you can check from menu View -> Toolbars). It usually appears at the bottom of Audacity. It has an option titled "Project Rate (Hz)" which for your recording would show "16000". Change this to "44100". Then before exporting to mp3 again, also amplify by 5dB, because volume is a bit softer than desired.
The Checker is a nice tool to check volume, and other tech specs, and adjust as necessary. Optimal volume is 89dB, or as close as possible (86-92 dB)
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker

When you're ready with the fixes, go ahead and upload again with the same filenames :D

Welcome to the Poetry Collection, Mahoma, and congrats on your debut! Such a funny poem and delivery! I used to be a troubadour in a renaissance roleplaying fair, but never had this happen to me

The recording is PL OK! Just a heads up on the volume which is a bit on the loud end, and there is a little clipping. Clipping occurs when the volume is beyond maximum system capacity, which in Audacity waveform appears with peaks all the way up/down, and may result in sound distortion, so we want to avoid if possible. You can activate the option of "Show Clipping" from menu View. Clipping will appear in red if present. Try to either decrease input volume of microphone before recording, or physically move just a bit away from the microphone while recording. But be careful not to go to the other extreme and become too quiet. Visual hint in Audacity for good volume is when the waveform peaks just above the 0.5 mark.
Volume is very tricky to get right all the time. That's why we have a nifty little tool just for us Librivoxers :D The Checker: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker Optimal volume is 89dB, or as close as possible (86-92 dB) Yours is now close to 95dB. You don't need to re-upload now, as I can decrease volume during cataloguing when this project is complete, but generally you can deamplify by amplifying with a negative value, for example, -5dB.

Ah, that's too bad.

I see. No problem, I'll remember that too.

I recently updated my computer, and I think this version of audacity might be different from the one I was using before. I'll see what I can do about the audio.

And finally, here is the third recording for this month.

Oh I see, that's why you had to reset the bit-rate setting. Then also check that Audacity is using the correct microphone (in case you have an external one connected and an internal one, too)

Thank you for your recording! PL OK!

Thank you, Winston, these are just perfect!
And thank you, Crystal!

MW is now updated.

I plan to keep this project up for a few more days to give time to readers for the edits. But let me know if anyone has an objection (either here or pm), if, for example, you wanted the collection ready for Easter, or something.

In the meantime, here's the next open collection! :D viewtopic.php?f=28&t=86570
