I present for your listening pleasure:-
The Empty House by Algernon Blackwood
40m7s
https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor050_theemptyhouse_blackwood_gl_128kb.mp3
https://www.gutenberg.org/files/14471/14471-h/14471-h.htm#chapter1

Thank you for the opportunity. I liked the changing pace in this short story.
For some reason I pictured Richard Burton as he narrated The War Of The Worlds (Musical Version)
"And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours, regarded this world with envious eyes. And slowly and surely drew their plans against us."

Here's mine
"The monkey's paw" by W.W. Jacobs published in september 1902

Thanks for the opportunity,

Thank you Rohan! Mostly PL ok but a couple of things to update please

Your recording is a little quiet - comes in at 83.9 on my checker. Please could you adjust to fall between the 87-91 db range - if you're using audacity this video has info on how to do this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_z607awyLw

One other edit:
7.45 - repetition of 'motioned'

Just an observation - there is quite a lot of clicky noises throughout this recording - perhaps from something moving around close to the mic? No need to edit anything, was just for future info.

Thanks again!

Hello,

I'm inquiring about "Ten minute stories" by Algernon blackwood. Is this book in the public domain? Could I pick any one of these stories in this this book?

I am new here and this would be my very first read.

Thank you for your time. It's always slightly overwhelming when someone is new. I worry asking questions that've already been asked, so please forgive me if I do.

Welcome here Sandy!
Yes, this book is in the public domain and you can choose any of the stories.
Please use this text source to read from https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/006059047
as it's a scan of the original 1914 publication ( and any later publication may have copyrights of its own)

Thank you!

If you don't mind me asking, is "The Foghorn" by Gertrude Atherton, Public Domain as well?
I have tried searching for the past hour and I know most of her books are public domain and most are in the Librivox catalog,
however, I don't see that one in particular. Do you happen to know?

Thank you in advance again.

Of course I don't mind :D So, this one is not in the public domain, as it was published in 1934.
We're looking for books published in 1925 or earlier.

Thank you Rapunzelina!

That's too bad as I was so looking forward to reading it:(

I'll keep searching for something similar. "The yellow wallpaper" has been read already.
Are we able to reread stories that are already completed and in the catalog? I just asked this
question on another forum and waiting for the answer:

[Hello,
I am new to Librivox and still trying to figure out how to post a question
and which thread to ask it on, if there isn't a specific place for it... I hope that makes sense.

I would like to make sure that it's okay to reread another persons work?
Meaning I know these have been read and posted in the catalog (which is the final end product, correct?)
So do we still need people to reread completed work in different voices?
I would like to read, "Christ is coming (poem)" and "A Mother's sorrow and short poem".

Is this something that is regularly done. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here.
Just trying to figure out how things work.

Thanks a bunch!

Yes! You can read something that is already in the catalogue, either a short story/poem, or a whole solo book.
SKdove wrote: March 18th, 2021, 7:13 pm So do we still need people to reread completed work in different voices?
I wouldn't say need, but sometimes people want to record their own version of a story/book, and of course it's allowed.

This also gives listeners more choice of voice.

Thanks for your patience Grant! Had a busier week than planned.

Fantastic reading, really enjoyed this - my skin moving along with Shorthouse's at points!

A couple of PL notes
There's 2.5 seconds of silence at the start rather than the 0.5-1 sec
4.04 - I hear 'psychal research' for 'psychical research'

His Unconquerable Enemy by W.C. Morrow

https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor050_hisunconquerableenemy_morrow_rl_128kb.mp3

https://americanliterature.com/author/wc-morrow/short-story/his-unconquerable-enemy

I was a bit surprised to see this one wasn't on the site already, as it's noted in several places as Morrow's best known story and there's already a few others by him.
