P.S. One thing I see right away is the file name. It should have been:

Thank you, I don't know why I didn't realize that with the two ##, I will fix and re upload that, but I'll wait for any other changes I may need to make first.

This is Section 9 Hallowe'en

https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/taleofsolomonowl_9_bailey_128kb.mp3

File size: 4.55 KB
File length: 4:51

This is my second recording for LibriVox but as I only just uploaded the other one today as well I have not gotten any feedback yet. I had a lot of fun doing this. Please give me any advice you feel I need on this. I look forward to doing more recordings for Librivox.

Thanks,
Heather
I have a few technical items.

1) Please trim the silence before you start talking at the very beginning - it should be somewhere between 1/2 and 1 second (you have almost 1 1/2 seconds).

2) You need to read the chapter at a second place in the introduction, so please edit in
Chapter Nine - Hallowe'en
after you read "by Arthur Scott Bailey" (at about 23 seconds).

3) The story itself - all OK.

4) At the end you read "End of chapter 9 - Halloween. Recording by Heather Davis." Normally we would read that as "End of chapter 9. Recording by Heather Davis." I'm not going to ask you to change this, but it is a change you can do in future chapters.

5) Your closing silence is right about 7 1/2 seconds - absolutely within the LibriVox specifications, but most readers try to get very close to 5 seconds of closing silence - something you can aim for in future chapters.

At around 39 seconds, where Solomon is making his Hah Hah Hah Hoo laughing sounds your level gets right to the edge of clipping - any more volume than this would have started sounding really distorted. You got away with it this time, but when you have chapters with loud talking you'll want to move a bit away from the microphone or set the record levels a little lower for the recording. This is just something to keep in mind for the future.

So if you can trim a bit off the very beginning, add the words "Chapter 9 Hallowe'en" at the appripriate place in the introduction and upload again you should be all set.

Thank you so much,

1) done
2) done
3) Thank you
4) I did this just to make good habits
5) I did this as well just to get in the habit of doing it

Thank you for the note on the loud part, I was worried about that area.
Thank you again for all of your feed back. I will submit the new file right now.

Thanks,
Heather

Hi Phil. Sorry for the delayed reply. See my new test sample I uploaded. https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/librivox_sample_campo_v2.mp3

Per the Checker, it passed.

I would guess that a lot of people use Audacity, like me, to do recordings. Does Librivox document anywhere the process for how to produce the perfect output for Librivox delivery for Audacity users?

I ask because Audacity has a Process page that describes steps to follow to pass the ACX check. I think that I just need to tweak that when I run Loudness Normalization from -20 LUFS (ACX) to -16 LUFS, which I found as a target in one of the Librivox dox.

Anyhow, let me know if I am cleared to start recording the items I signed up for. tks yr help. Joseph Campo

Thanks, here you are:

Chapter 12 - Benjamin Bat - PL OK

Chapter 11 - Cured At Last - the overall volume is too loud. Checker measures 93.8 dB while LibriVox wants recordings in the 86-92 dB range. If you bring your recording back into Audacity and reduce the volume by 5 dB - with Amplify ... -5 - the chapter should come out very close to the center of the range. At that point chapter 11 should be fine as well.
