The Rover Vol. 01 No. 06, edited by Seba Smith (1792 - 1868) and Lawrence Labree.

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/rover-01-06-by-various/
"The Rover: A weekly magazine of tales, poetry and engravings, original and selected" was a magazine started in 1843 by Seba Smith and Lawrence Labree. The editors aimed at a high quality standard in their selection of short stories and poetry. Every half-year, the 26 weekly issues were also published under a bound compilation. This is the sixth issue, containing 5 short stories and 3 poems. ( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/rover02labrgoog/page/n105/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

I'd like to claim Section 1, "Olivia de Castro."

I love to read, AND my employer matches my volunteer hours with a donation to the Internet Archive, flagged to benefit Librivox.org. How cool is that?

Hello and welcome to our forum, and specifically to this project, Christopher. :)

Thank you for your interest in this project, and I can definitely reserve you section 4 for the time being.

However, before you start recording, I would strongly advice to complete a one-minute-test first. This is to check that your technical settings are all up to LV standard.
You can read all about it here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test
Please post the test in the Listeners Wanted forum: viewforum.php?f=21 and someone will check it and give you feedback or advice if needed.

As soon as the test is ok'ed, please post the results back here, and then I can assign you the section officially. For that I would need to open a personal reader page for you, so please also tell me which reader name you want to go by. Can be the same as the forum name or your real name, or whatever.

For the moment, I will reserve the section for you for one month, to give you time to sort out the test. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Good luck with the test !

hello Cassiopeia, what a lovely mythological name :9: and a big welcome to our Rover project as well. I see you already passed your test  so you can launch into recording right away. If you need help with the noise-cleaning function for Audacity, let me know. It's a great tool, I use it all the time and it gives good results.

I have assigned you the 3 poems and the short story now. They are actually great to start out with, because they are rather small and therefor a good choice to "learn the ropes". ;) Since you want feedback, I would suggest you start with one of the poems, and when finished, you already post it here and wait for my feedback before you tackle the next section. That way, any errors you may have done in your first recording can get avoided in the next one. 8-)

And here is your personal reader page: https://librivox.org/reader/15688 where all your projects will be listed with time. :9: If you like to have another reader name, please let me know and I can still change it.

Since you are new to all this, please read carefully through the first post, you will find all the details there on how to correctly name the file, how to speak intro/outro and title of a section.

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask :) And now good luck with your first poem !

And that means this project is already fully claimed after only two days  I will move us over to Readers Found and will probably launch the next Rover issue over the weekend.

you have two digits (02) but we only have 8 sections, so one digit is enough ;) no worries, I will PL first and if there are no errors you don't have to reupload. But I won't find the time to PL today...busy weekend again.
