The Black Cat Vol. 02 No. 1 October 1896 by Various.

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project: https://librivox.org/black-cat-02-01-oct1896-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
Volume 2 starts off with the following 6 stories in the first issue:
The House that Jack built, by Harold Donovan Hilton / In the Garden of a Villa, by R. George Smith Jr. / A Peg-Leg Ghost, by Wellington Vandiver / How the Run was stopped, by Richard Stillman Powell / My friend, Walker, by Geraldine Meyrick / In an Hour, by Warwick James Price ( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/TheBlackCatV02no06189703/The Black Cat v02no01 (1896-10)/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Wohoo, and we have finished an entire year's worth of Black Cats, so this is the start of Volume 2, which has the 12 issues from the second year running of this popular magazine.

Also here, as before, I want to keep this as a one-story-per-reader-project so we can have the maximum of voices in each magazine.

Claiming is now opened. Looking forward to this batch of stories. :9:

Movie: It's A Wonderful Life. Schmaltzy Christmas movie. George Bailey (Jimmie Stewart) has to stay in small town and run the family bank instead of traveling the world - he uses his trip money to prevent a run on the bank. Troubles continue to accumulate and he thinks about suicide, wishing he had never been born. An angel hears this wish and shows him what the town would have been like without him there.

Thanks, Todd

ah ok, I know the movie by name and reputation, though I have never seen it. Now I am curious why the story reminds you of this movie...maybe the movie was plagiarizing this story ? :hmm: I'll let myself be surprised.

Thanks
