The American Bee Journal. Volume XVII No. 11, March 1881 by Various ( - ).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/the-american-bee-journal-vol-xvii-no-11-march-16-1881-by-various/

The American Bee Journal is the “oldest bee paper in America established in 1861 devoted to scientific bee-culture and the production and sale of pure honey. Published every Wednesday, by Thomas G. Newman, Editor and Proprietor” In this issues are topics from Colchian Honey and Honey-Producing in California to Early Importations of Italian Bees and Tardiness in Fecundity. ( Larry Wilson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/59152
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

May I please claim Sections 1, 8, 10. I used to keep bees and sell their honey, so this magazine is great fun for me.

The only other thing you need to do is let me know how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalog - real name, pseudonym or any nickname you wish. This is how you will be credited for all of your LV work.

This is a nice short piece to get your feet wet with.
Welcome!

The reading is fine. Just need to adjust the silences.
At the beginning we need no more than one second, and you have about two.
At the end we like to have about five. You're a little short of this, but as long as you are adjusting the beginning, you can add a bit at the end. Just upload the corrected file under the same name and post the link here again.

Just a general comment: There as quite a bit of echo, or "empty room" quality to you recording. There are a number of things that can help in setting up your recording environment to reduce that hollow sound. There are good tutorials on that. For me, it as as simple as getting a mike stand so that I could bring the microphone closer and then hanging a few blankets in back of my recording position to catch some of the reverb.

Anyway, this recording is still PL OK except for tweaking the silences.
