Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds by National Intelligence Council .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/global-trends-2030-alternative-worlds-by-national-intelligence-council/
Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds is the fifth installment (published in 2012) in the National Intelligence
Council’s series aimed at providing a framework for thinking about the future. As with previous
editions, this report will stimulate strategic thinking by identifying critical trends and
potential discontinuities. It distinguishes between megatrends, those factors that will likely occur
under any scenario, and game-changers, critical variables whose trajectories are far less certain.
As the diversity and complexity of various factors has grown, there is
increased attention to scenarios or alternative worlds.
At a critical juncture in human history, which could lead to widely contrasting futures.

the contention is presented that the future is not set in stone, but is malleable, the result of an interplay
among megatrends, game-changers and, above all, human agency. The ultimate goal is to encourage
decisionmakers—whether in government or outside—to think and plan for the long term so that
negative futures do not occur and positive ones have a better chance of unfolding. (from the Executive Summary, lightly edited for clarity)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I can MC this for you.

The MW is set up.

You might want to consider shortening the system-generated file name to something like alternativeworlds2030_nationalintelligencecouncil_128kb.mp3

Moving this off the Launch Pad and over to Going Solo.

it's taken a little longer than i thought to get started. i went back and re-recorded 7 sections in the bioethics report that i was finishing after replacing a skitzy mic cable - good news is my sound quality is much improved. i should be finishing the last section of that in the next day or so and then can get started more or less full-time. am looking forward to this project

i'm starting to size up this volume for reading and have an update to report - this allows me to account for such characteristics as font size, page layout, and complexity when breaking the text into sections.

i've started by doing a test recording of the executive summary - my intention is not to include this in the recording. like most ES it provides a summary of the more detailed volume - this is useful to me s the BC and reader in presenting a summary, but like most ES provides a "cliff's notes" version of the text. the lv version will start with the introduction - at page 1 and will include the detailed report in toto, through the acknowledgements on page 136.

i added three section at end to complete the text. there is a fairly obvious formatting error near the end where text (p 119) that was to go in a new text box was mistakenly added to the end of a previous text box. i will shift the fragment from 119 to its proper position on pg 122.

Patrick,

It might be helpful to edit the first post to read Section instead of Chapter since this one does not have chapters.

Also, please remove the Translated by Patrick McHaffie phrases.

These are really important if we get a DPL.

It was in the starting template you filled out, right after the author selection.
