Grown-Up by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892 - 1950).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/grown-up-by-edna-st-vincent-millay/
Edna St. Vincent Millay was an American lyrical poet and playwright.
She won poetry prizes from an early age, including the Pulitzer Prize in 1923, and went on to use verse as a medium for her feminist activism. She also wrote verse-dramas and a highly-praised opera The King's Henchman. Her novels appeared under the name Nancy Boyd, and she refused lucrative offers to publish them under her own name. Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This poem was suggested by TriciaG.

Grown-Up by Edna St. Vincent Millay, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal URL.]

Then read the poem:
Was it for this I uttered prayers,
And sobbed and cursed and kicked the stairs,
That now, domestic as a plate,
I should retire at half-past eight?

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

Thank you, good reading Chance, just a couple of comments
- your volume is a bit low at 85 dB, You should aim for your waveforms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:

Image

You can check your volume using our Checker program - see info at http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker You will find the volume in decibels on the Information tab. For your information, we look for around 89 dB (87-91 is OK) (all the other tech specs are there also)
- please copy/paste the filename from the opening post instructions, the `128kb is missing from your filename. We need that for cataloging purposes.
- please include the file duration when you post a link.
Could you please make those corrections and upload using the same filename? Thanks.. :D

I cannot use the checker. I have a Chromebook, and it won't download the checker or audacity (It took 4 hours to do my one minute test yesterday. That was horrible and I am still apologizing to the admin for making her go through that). I'm using Wavepad and I started sending my files through ACX's checker today. It's helpful enough, but i haven't edited my audio yet. I will make those changes and get it back to you tomorrow! Thank you for your patience with the newbie :D

Chance,

In Wavepad, I have found that normalizing to -1 db gets me very close to the correct level.

So I found a checker on the ACX website and other than the file being saved at 128kb I had no issues, so this is the one I'm going with.
