THRALLS of the ENDLESS NIGHT by Leigh Douglass Brackett (1915 - 1978).

This project is in our catalog at https://librivox.org/thralls-of-the-endless-night-by-leigh-douglass-brackett/
This is a classic space opera from the early days of science fiction pulp magazines. A "tribe" composed of Hans, Officers and a Captain marooned on a strange place who have to eke out a living with great difficulties in a difficult and hostile environment. Does this sound sort of familiar? There are also really neat 'Piruts' in the story who always try to get the supposed benefit of living close to the Ship. ( phil c)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/62382
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Linny. Of course you may. I have decided that my currently chaotic life needs a few quiet moments recording some si fi to get my head back to normal. So I popped this up last night. Thanks again. :D

Well that went fast!

Part 1 and 2 are PL OK.

Part 3 has a repeat at 19:31 - It's the officers we ought to fight, not each other.

Part 4 is PL OK.

That was a fun little story. Overall a little sad though.

Yes, sad. Brackett has an interesting take on human nature. Even though this was just a story, I found myself interested in Kirk and his outlook in such a bleak planet. She has interesting female characters too. I could hear those babies crying with the cold. brrrrrrrrrr. Anyway, part 3 is ready for spot check. I have other commitments before I can move along to more of Leigh's stories but I put you in as DPL for this one viewtopic.php?f=12&t=84157 hope you don't mind.
