Hi Chris,

I hope this fixed it up. My PC's playing a lot of tricks on me right now.

This time the Checker is passing it with warnings ... the volume is way up at about 96, very, very loud.

Sorry to be a pain about this, but we really need to get this locked down early in your Librivox career.

A good path forward is to install the Checker app on your computer. It can be found here, along with instructions for use. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker Its three general outcomes are "PASS", "FAIL", and "PASSED WITH WARNINGS". A "FAIL" probably means the tech settings are wrong. A "PASSED WITH WARNINGS" probably means the recording is either too loud or too soft ... when this is the case, the MP3 can be easily fixed using the MP3GAIN app, which you should also install on your computer. It can be found here... https://mp3gain.en.softonic.com/ Set the Target Normal Volume to 89.0, run a Track Analysis, then if it's not 89, run a Track Gain, and it will adjust your MP3 file to approx 89. Very quick and easy.

So, in order to get the hang of it, I'll ask you to install these two apps, then take the MP3 file you just submitted, and run it first through the Checker app, so you can see what the "PASS WITH WARNINGS" message looks like ... then run the MP3 file through the MP3GAIN app to adjust the volume. Takes about 30 seconds to do both tasks once the Checker and MP3GAIN apps are installed on your computer.

Once adjusted, please resubmit the volume-adjusted MP3 file again in the usual way and I'll PL it.

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris!

Not a pain at all, I appreciate your patience and help this far! I got it normalized with MP3Gain and then re-checked it with the checker. These are great! Going to upload again per your instructions with the cleaned up files. Please let me know if there are any issues!

Great reading, Alan. PL-OK

Roll on the day when Banjo Paterson's "Happy Dispatches" becomes PD in the States, and we can record some of his reminiscences of the conflicts of those days. The following is regarding Royston, given command of the Australian contingent, with whom they had a relationship that mingled admiration with exasperation.

""Hell-fire Jack," otherwise General Royston, by instinct a bandit chief and by temperament a hero, whose name is well known in South Africa, England, and Australia.

"When I'm running a show, Paterson," he said to me. "I stick my lance in the ground; leave Dangar (his brigade major) in charge, and I go off to see how the boys are getting on."

He would ride up behind a row of dismounted men firing for their lives and exhort them:

"That's it boys. Pump it into 'em!" This to the accompaniment of a sotto-voce chorus from the firing line:

"Get out of that, you old b----d. You're drawing the fire on us!"

Hi Chris -

I am just doing the Lorraine recordings -

After recording each part, I am wondering instead of saying "End of poem" I should be saying "End of Part 1" etc. until the last one and then saying "End of Poem, end of book etc".

Thoughts?
