Amelia -

Chapter 24 - The Philanthropist's Christmas - is PL OK.

That said the program 'Checker' objects strongly about the noise level in the recording, and Audacity reports there's only 27-and-a-bit dB between your voice and the noise level. I've listened to bits of the noise and it sounds like it's mostly electronic noise, and in your chapter it isn't particularly distracting, so we'll let it pass.

In future recordings you might want to try using Audacity's Noise Reduction effect. I tried it on your chapter - using the default settings in my version of Audacity - and that improved the signal to noise to 39-and-a-smidge. When I ran the Noise Reduction effect and added a High Pass effect as well (at 6 dB/octave, 150 Hz) that was further improved to nearly 46 dB. But do, do, do be cautious when processing your recording - it's easy to make an OK recording sound pretty bad if any of these noise reduction attempts are taken to an extreme.

Lastly, I'm predicting Mr. Carter will end up not collecting Sniffen/Pete after the holidays, though he may demand the right to take that pup for walks.

Thank you. Hey, I have internet again, at least temporarily. :D (Phil is sitting on a box in a room piled with unopened boxes, typing on a keyboard balanced on his knees; but he is happy to be on line again)
EDIT: t his file has been marked PL OK already, did you change anything?

Carrie -

Chapter 19 - Old Father Christmas - is PL OK. Thank you.

Notes:

At around 6:49 I hear you hit the microphone (or its stand or something). It's a bit distracting, but doesn't throw the chapter into the fail category. This is a case where wearing headphones as you record can alert you to such mishaps so you can re-record the line and remove the bad one while editing. Depending on your setup, however, this might not work for you - if the signal gets digitized and then re-analog-izated between the mic and headphones there may be too much delay to listen to while talking.

Your closing silence could be a bit shorter - most readers leave 5 seconds but anything between 5 and 10 meets the spec. (Yours was 7 seconds.)
Thank you for the constructive and specific feedback! That is really helpful.

Hi Rich and many thanks for helping out so gallantly while my computer sat in a car. We still have no place to set up my 'studio' but the computer is working again and I can spend some time taking care of the projects. so I will be hopefully handling my responsibilities again. :D

Hi guys.

I have a question to this topic. Do you or your kids ever used audio books? I think it is a super idea. Not to learn reading but to listen to beautiful christmas stories.

I found a homepage with children headphones. Super idea for audio books, because normale headphones may be too loud. Here is the article: https://www.heimkinoheld.de/kinderkopfhoerer-test/
it is a german article, but you can easily translate it to an english version directly in your browser. I think it is worth a minute, to think about it :)

Chapter 35: 9:51 minutes long.

Chapter 35 - Christmas on Big Rattle - PL OK. Slipping the author's name in there worked just fine; a good edit, thank you.

I realize I should have asked you to read the chapter author for Chapter 11 (Jimmy Scarecrow's Christmas) as well, so the introduction will include:
The Children's Book of Christmas Stories, by Asa Don Dickinson.
Chapter 11 - Jimmy Scarecrow's Christmas, by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman.
Sorry I didn't call that out before.
That's ok, Give me a few days to fix it and I will have it up by next week

Ok so here is the new recording

13:35 minutes long
Here's the thing: I used a different microphone because I did not have access to the same one I used (it will take me a bit of time to get it) so the part I added in sounds a bit different, but still good quality. If you want me to use the same mic to have that one part sound the same just let me know and I will change it.

Yep, the microphone sounds substantially different. Everything is plainly audible/understandable so that's fine.

Chapter 11 - Jimmy Scarecrow's Christmas - Spot PL OK - thank you for the fix.
