So, chapter 22, the paragraph that begins with "The light that flashed into his face...". The fifth sentence contains the n-word and, yes, it makes me uncomfortable. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry, but my only suggestion would be to give it to someone else. I don't want you to read anything you don't feel comfortable with and we cannot change the text or omit a word. This word was common at the time... So your pick. I am very sorry, I know how commited you are.
Love gothic novels? Try Children Of The Abbey. Like surprising mysteries? Try The Amathist Cross. Looking for an easy read? Try Harriet's Choice.

I'll keep it. But someday, when I've gone on to The Great Library, George and i will have a little talk about using the word frantically when he means the word frantically.miss stav wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 11:32 pmtobester123 wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 5:36 pmSo, chapter 22, the paragraph that begins with "The light that flashed into his face...". I am sorry I have no other solution for you. I have sympathy for you but this is our policy.

Oh, no probs-I will make it work. How things have changed since 1904, though: we can say "d-----d" all we want but it's the n-word that causes trouble. And rightly so.

I don't know if this helps, but it is not YOU saying n***r, it's the character. Characters are often unpleasant. Heck, some are even murderers. I know that word is uncomfortable, as it should be. But it's spoken by a fictitious character, not you. I know, I recently recorded The Nigger of the Narcissus. I would never say that word in my personal life, but in that context, it had to be.
