State of the Union Addresses by United States Presidents (1909 - 1912).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/state-of-the-union-addresses-by-united-states-presidents-1909-1912-by-william-howard-taft/
The State of the Union address is a speech presented by the President of the United States to a joint session of the United States Congress, typically delivered annually. The address not only reports on the condition of the nation but also allows the President to outline his legislative agenda (for which he needs the cooperation of Congress) and national priorities. This album contains recordings of addresses from William H. Taft. (Wikipedia)
This is the 16th out of 26 projects. Prior addresses are found here: https://librivox.org/search?q=state%20of%20the%20union&search_form=advanced

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5050
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: Special - Please follow text while PLing. I'm not looking for word perfect. The language is sometimes awkward and following the text will help identify errors which the ear alone may not find. Linny is DPL

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Most of these speeches seem to have been given in writing and broken down into 'parts'. Unfortunately some of the parts are REALLY long so I've had to break them down further. I couldn't think of anything else so that's how we ended up with part 1, a., part 1, b., and so forth.

Linny, in previewing the 1911 Taft message, there are several places in which Gutenberg notes [missing text]. How do you prefer I read those? Simply "missing text" or something like "the remainder of the text is missing" (or something else)? Most of these seem to be in Part IV, The War Department. - Either option is fine.

In part 1, under Situation After Readjustment, second paragraph, Gutenberg's scan translated several decimal points into dashes, so that (for example) 21.39 percent became 21-39 percent. Should I read those as decimal points or as dashes? Decimal point please

In part 2a, under Mexico, Gutenberg appears to have had a problem scanning the text. In the paragraph that begins "Proper protests were made against these invasions of American rights," there is the date APRIL IS 1911 9 11. Based on the surrounding text, I think the date is likely April 19, 1911. How would you like that read? April 19, 1911

Also in part 2a, under Central American--Honduras, the Gutenberg text has "III connection with this temporary loan." I'm sure from the surrounding text that the original phrase was "In connection with this temporary loan." How would you like that read?

In part 2b, under International Prize Court, there appears the text "The supplementary protocol to The he Hague convention." Should I eliminate the redundant "he"? Yes, please

At the beginning of Part III, there is the abbreviation "viz." Should I read that as "viz" or as videlicet or as "that is to say"?

In Part IV.a., under The War Department, Gutenberg's scan came up with "There is now before Congress a Dill." Dill or Bill?

There are probably others, but those are the ones I have for now. Just hoping to make things easier for both of us by agreeing in advance! Thank you! It seem PG was getting tired of this project by 1911.

Thanks much,

Joanne
