The Boy Scouts of Woodcraft Camp by Thornton W. Burgess (1874 - 1965). Translated by Keith Salis ( - 0)

This project is complete. Audio file may be found in the catalog: https://librivox.org/the-boy-scouts-of-woodcraft-camp-by-thornton-w-burgess/

Volunteers outside the USA: Thornton W. Burgess died in 1965. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies. <p>

In the early days of Boy Scouts of America, the focus was on building men from the boys. The boys learned honor, discipline, brotherhood, and the many facets of Woodcraft: the skills needed to survive and thrive in the wild. Walter Upton comes to this remote camp eager to put his "book learning" to use. He learns that, though the information in the books has some value, real learning comes from experience in the wilderness and from striving alongside his fellow Scouts. Along the way, he also gets to teach others the importance of character and the hope it brings to the rest of life's endeavors.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Like a story that we wish was never ending, we know sometime we must reach the final page. Still we carry on just pretending that there'll always be one more book to go. - Fading Lights, Genesis

Keith, I can also MC for you. I took you out as translator. That field is for when the book itself was translated. We are "just" readers.

Thanks, that must have been autofill.
I got started last night with Section 1: the Intro and Ch 1. After this, I'll just keep referring to them as Chapters, so there'll just be 20.

So hard on everyone. I'll pray that she gets some relief, as well as you two.

Chapter 3 is PL OK. This is a really nice story. I haven't heard any of his stories for older children before.

Chapters 4-6 are all PL OK. I'm enjoying this story. Thank you for reading it. Adventure, good clean fun, and a few life lessons along the way.

I'm glad you suggested Burgess' writings.
He's got a fun writing style that flows nicely.
Ch 7 is up, but don't be afraid to hold off for bigger chunks of the story. I find it more enjoyable than getting disjointed bits at a time.
I hope to get 8 & 9 up this weekend, and that's a side story that's pretty cool, though a lot of my Scout Leader training set off alarms as I read it.
Though I suppose much of what happens in the story is in violation of the Safe Scouting Manual of today.

Chapter 7
You have a great owl call!

11:51 – word change - Now in his reflecting finder he clearly saw the little fur bearer, a mussel in his paws.

I aim for PLing within 24 hours of posting. I feel that with the effort of reading and editing the least I can do is listen timely. I don't always make my goal, and this week with my mom in the hospital I certainly haven't, but it's a goal.
