They Who Knock at Our Gates: A Complete Gospel of Immigration by Mary Antin (1881 - 1949).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/they-who-knock-at-our-gates-by-mary-antin-2/

In this extended essay, Mary Antin asks us to consider three questions:

First: A question of principle: Have we any right to regulate immigration?
Second: A question of fact: What is the nature of our present immigration?
Third: A question of interpretation: Is immigration good for us?

In doing so, she asks us to step back from the usual discussion around immigration, which tends to focus on practical matters, and consider the underlying principles involved. What do we owe our fellow humans and what is our national mission as Americans? (summary by Zachary Katz-Stein)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/40535
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I am about to finish a different Solo project and want to line up the next one right away. I know there's already another version of this book, but I wanted to find a non-fiction book and this one really caught my attention.

Cheers!

Hi Team,

I am still working on this book! It's just been a busy couple weeks.

Also, chapter 2 is incredibly long (I think it may be more than double chapter 1).

Can we break chapter 2 into a part 1 and part 2.

Thanks!
Zac

Yes Zac, by all means break up any chapters into parts as needed. There is a button on the section compiler page to add a new section that you can use to get an extra row or rows in the MW.
