The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum (1856 - 1919).

This project is complete and can be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/the-life-and-adventures-of-santa-claus-version-4-by-l-frank-baum/

Every child knows about Santa Claus, the jolly man who brings gifts to all on Christmas. There are many stories that tell of his life, but the delightful version relayed in The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is by far the most charming and original of all, at least in my opinion. Only L. Frank Baum, the man who created the wonderful land of Oz, could have told Santa's tale in such rich and imaginative detail. The book is divided into his youth, his manhood and his old age and of course ends in how he became immortal and had to recruit helpers in almost every household around the world to keep the joy and happiness going each year. This delightful book has been recorded by LibriVox volunteers several times, including a wonderful dramatic version, but I think it is nice enough to do again and will also be a chance for new readers to contribute their unique voices to this tale. I hope we can finish this in time for the Christmas season but if not, that's OK too. Santa would understand! ( The publisher and phil chenevert)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/520
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

This sounds wonderful!

If I'm not too early, might I claim Section 5 - The Master Woodsman?
Studies in Stagecraft, by Clayton Hamilton - More essays on / criticism of early 20th Century theatre. Plenty of sections up for grabs!

Oh Phil, I’d decided not to sign up for more PLing for a while, but this one looks too good to resist. I’ll DPL for you :D

Welcome to this project
I will assign that chapter to you. Have you done your 1 minute test? I don't see any record of that. If not, please do that before recording, ok?
Let me know if you have indeed received the OK from you 1 minute test and if you have any questions.

Hi Phil,
I would like to claim sections 2, 4, 6, and 7, if that's ok.
A couple of questions. One, Section 4 (Claus) has a footnote, which I've not encountered before. How do I incorporate it?
Two, shall I refer to a general pronunciation link for the different character names or do you have one developed for this book?
Thanks much. I'm looking forward to reading for the book and you.
Diane

ok, 3 questions.
Do I simply read the chapter name, e.g., "The Child of the Forest?" without reference to section number or general section (Youth, etc.), or "Section 2, Child of the Forest?" or "Youth: Section 2, Child of the Forest?"

You can have 4, 6 and 7 (2 was claimed earlier by someone else sorry). For the footnote, where the text has **, just say "footnote:....read it)
I do not have a pronunciation link for the different character names. Is there any name in particular you are unsure of? :D
EDIT: read the chapter name as shown in the TITLE column, just that. Do not add Youth, etc. This is (or should be) spelled out in the first post of this project thread. I suggest following the script carefully to keep everything consistent: "Chapter [number] of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
"The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, by L. Frank Baum. [read the chapter title]"
for example for the first chapter, "Burzee" and for the second chapter "The Child of the Forest"
Keep asking questions, I got lots of answers!Image

Very helpful. Thanks Phil.
I’ll go through the 3 chapters and get back to you if I run into something for which I can’t find a source.
