This project is now complete! All files can be found at https://librivox.org/fear-and-trembling-selections-by-soren-kierkegaard/

Selections from Fear and Trembling by Soren Kierkegaard (1813 - 1855). Translated by Lee M. Hollander (1880 - 1972)

Volunteers outside the USA: Lee M. Hollander died in 1972. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies. <p>
And God tempted Abraham and said unto him: take Isaac, thine only son, whom thou lovest and go to the land Moriah and sacrifice him there on a mountain which I shall show thee. Genesis 22:1
Soren Kierkegaard wondered how Abraham made the movement of faith that made him the father of faith mentioned in the New Testament (Hebrews 11:17-19). Fear and Trembling is the product of his wonder. Work out your salvation in fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). One-third of "Fear and Trembling" was translated in 1923 by Lee Hollander in the University of Texas Bulliten. This book has already been read in parts in the Short Nonfiction Collection but I think some might be interested in listening to it as a complete reading. (Craig Campbell)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/60333
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi, Craig. It is ready. Just two questions occurred me when I was setting it up:

1) Do you want the title in the catalog to be "Fear and Trembling (selections)" or "Selections from Fear and Trembling"? I noticed the book is called "Selections from the Writings of Kierkegaard", so, just wondering. Right now we have the first option in, but we can change it to the second easily.

2) Are you DPLing, or should we wait to see if we find one here in the Launchpad?

Thanks!
Leni

Hi Leni

Yeah I'll be happy to DPL this project :D

6497 words might seem long for the last section but 5286 words = 37:03 so 6497 should come in around 50 minutes

I quite agree with SS

So may I read that last section - long, but doable.

"Let us then either waive the whole story of Abraham, or else learn to stand in awe of the enormous paradox which constitutes his significance for us, so that we may learn to understand that our age, like every age, may rejoice if it has faith. "

Thanks Craig I meant section 1 but I automatically assumed that the second section in the queue will be number 2. OOP. Is this me conforming to 'stereotyped identities' in a way? Isn't that ironic...

PS copyright lasts for 60 years posthumously in my country, can I record the section, legally speaking?

Hi shreyasethi :D

This is what I found under copyright here on librivox in answer to your question. It seems it has been left up to the reader.
NOTE: LibriVox encourages all volunteers to abide by the laws of their countries, but we are not responsible if a volunteer makes a personal decision to act in breach of their countries' copyright laws.
