Cleone. A Tragedy by Robert Dodsley (1703 - 1764).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/cleone-a-tragedy-by-robert-dodsley/
This is a play in 5 acts. From the playwright's preface: "An imperfect hint towards the Fable of the following Tragedy was taken from the Legend of St. Genevieve written originally in French, and translated into English about an hundred years ago by Sir William Lower." It tells a story of jealousy and deceit turning friend against friend to acquire wealth and love. ( Joshua Seeger)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/britishtheatre05bell/page/n9/mode/2up
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): special:
My intent is to apply the general guidance for PL'ing plays: e.g., check for skipped lines, consistent name pronunciation, basic correctness of intonation (e.g., questions vs. statements), etc. Sort of a variation on "standard PL" but with attention to the fact that it's a play.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

The link you give doesn't work for me. Below are two links that do.

https://archive.org/details/britishtheatre05bell/page/n9/mode/2up

Consider using one of these.

I need to correct a couple of things. (1) I believe Dodsley was born in 1703, not 1704. This is from 2 distinct sources: Wikipedia and the Penquin Classics edition of Boswell's Life of Johnson. (2) The play was first performed in 1758, this from the preface included in the text itself. So the 1792 date is merely a printing date and has nothing to do with copyright. --Joshua

Thanks! Both of these appear to be in better shape than the one from Stanford. The one from the Archive is exactly the same as the one from Google Books. So I will use that one.

MW coming up.

edit: I believe I've made all of the changes you requested. You will need to specify what special DPL'ing you are seeking.

Welcome first-time BC
This project is now set up in the database. Since this will be your first project as soloist/book coordinator (BC), you will need to set up a password for access to the workflow system so you can enter the information into the section compiler which then appears in the "Magic Window" in the top post. Here are some links to detailed instructions for logging into the system and setting a password the first time, as well as for entering and editing information in the section compiler.

Instructions for BCs and DPLs
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kVj409nG_E0XJ5UrrcL7EVx7Qyx-2UQ7dbw4mINi3XQ/edit

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/BC's:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

ID3 tags will be added during cataloging so you don't need to add them to your files.

If you have any questions, let me know. Sections can be added by you or deleted by me. I'll leave this thread here in the Launch Pad for a day or so longer before I move it to the Going Solo forum, to see if a DPL (Dedicated Proof Listener) volunteers. If you already have someone in mind as DPL just let me know. As you have requested special dpl, you will need to indicate in what way it is special.
I've added some information to the MW merely as a suggestion. Feel free to make changes (e.g. leave out chapter titles, shorten longer ones, use Arabic numbers not Roman numerals, etc.). When you upload a section, it's your responsibility to add the link and duration (mm:ss) to the Magic Window. The link from the uploader goes in the "Listen URL" column, duration goes in the "notes" column. You also change the "status" to "Ready for PL". Be sure to post in the thread that a new section is ready for PL so your DPL knows there is something new.
Some of the contents of the MW will appear in the final project page that listeners see and it will be used to create the ID3 tags that appear on their mp3 player. Again, welcome to your first solo project.

Thanks, Dave. W.r.t. "As you have requested special dpl, you will need to indicate in what way it is special." where do I enter this information? My intent was to apply the general guidance for PL'ing plays; e.g., check for skipped lines, consistent name pronunciation, basic correctness of intonation (e.g., questions vs. statements), etc. Sort of a variation on "standard PL" but with attention to the fact that it's a play.

I just copied and pasted your comment into the very first post just below the word "special." You can edit your own posts also by clicking on the little pencil in the upper right hand corner. Be careful though when editing the first post as it's easy to create a mess with all the html code around. Enjoy!

Ah, thanks. I was just going to ask for your advice on that. Being somewhat new here, I don't know anyone to whom it would be appropriate to appeal.

Moving to Going Solo forum to keep the Launch Pad tidy. Once you've posted an audio file a DPL will likely show up.
