The Weaker Sex by Arthur Wing Pinero (1855 - 1934).

Mrs. Boyle-Chewton and her cause - the Advancement of Women from the Rear to the Van. Lady Vivash, new recruit to the cause. Their daughters Sylvia and Rhoda. Mr. Bargus, Member of Parliament for the Skipping-Molton Division of Cuddleford, who is about to declare his adherence to the cause. Ira Lee, The Poet of The Prairies from West of the Colorado Mountains. Lords, Ladies, Honorables. Extravagant hopeless passions...

This project is complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page at https://librivox.org/the-weaker-sex-by-arthur-wing-pinero/
  • And away we go again with another Pinero. Gender neutral of course - this is about the equality of rights!

Kitty will play Lady Vivash, that lady of mystery, while looking lazily over her stylish pince-nez to DPL your lines.

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.210247/page/n7
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

"Dudley Silchester, a fashionably-dressed, handsome-bearded man of about forty." The part's made for you.

Could I narrate please?

oh I think this part will be great for you. Dudley is the man who is desperately in love with Lady Vivash, but unfortunately has to accept that she loves another. I think you can do the tragic "eternal-best-friend" wonderfully, Adrian. :9: We'll have great dialogues together.

All claims registered, thank you all !

This play promises to be great and interesting

So... I think it is time for me to try out a dramatic reading. I'd like to play Rhoda, please.

Kiki :)

Well, I suppose. Wouldn't want to rush into things you know....

(Interestingly, when I scroll over your name in the MW, it shows me your absurdly low Reader Number in [ ] at the bottom of the screen - does that mean it is actually a negative number from before we started counting?!? EDIT: Whoops, the [ ] went away....)

Thanks, Todd

Thank you Sonia. I want you to think you're kicking a puppy every time you spurn my innocent love for you.

I am never cruel to puppies  and I am currently recording my parts, high dramatic scenes in the end. And yes...I really really pity Dudley...he is probably the best that could happen to Lady Vivash, but she is clinging to a lost love. (sigh)

BTW in case you haven't recorded yet: I am going to pronounce the 'y' in Philipp Lyster like "list, gist, missed", not "lice, mice, rice". In case you want to say it the same way in our dialogues. Is that ok for you ?
