[Play] The Witch-Wife by Henry Spicer (1811 - 1891).

Matthew Hopkins, a renowned witch-hunter, has his sights set on the quiet village near Pendell Manor. However Cecile Howard and her friends are determined to put an end to his superstitious nonsense, put an end to his reign of terror, and teach him a lesson he won't soon forget! ( Kelly S. Taylor)
  • This project is complete. All audio files can be found on the catalog page at: https://librivox.org/the-witch-wife-by-henry-spicer/

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/witchwifeadrama00spicgoog/page/n8/mode/2up
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

PRONUNCIATION GUIDE: Please pronounce the name of the heroine of our drama, niece of Sir Gerald, "Cecile" (se-SEEL) instead of "Cecil" (SESS-sul) as it is written.

Hi
Could I read the Constable in Act 1?
As this character is only in one act perhaps I could also read Judge Howlett in act 5 and/or the Gaoler on act 4.

Yes - Welcome aboard, sir!

Because these are small parts that appear in one act only, I'm glad to let you have them all!

Hi there!

I hope this isn't too presumptuous coming from a new kid around here, but if you'll have me I'd absolutely love to try my hand at Matthew Hopkins. If not, I'd be happy with most any role in this one.

Let me know!

Are you not reading any role yourself, Kelly? I could do the PLing if you'll have me. :D
Are you also doing the editing? Thanks!

Oh hooray! hooray! I would love to have you PL!

Well, I wasn't going to do a role, because I was afraid no one would volunteer to read the stage directions, but I see that Todd has generously volunteered to do that, so I guess I'm going to! Double hooray!! :D :D

Yes, I plan on editing. I just finished editing my first one act play. It took me forever, but I really enjoyed the experience. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with this one.

Oh, yes, please! Thanks! I just sent you a note saying that I wasn't taking a role because I was afraid no one would read the stage directions. You must have had your mind-reading powers working on over time this morning... :D

I have made a mistake!

I must have seen MAR for Harry Martyn while I was scanning the line assignments and thought I saw MAG for Maggie. She's not in Act II, just in Act III.

I put you down for the role, but you're welcome to change if you'd like to.
