Entertaining Made Easy by Emily Rose Burt ( - 0).

This project is now complete. All recordings can be downloaded from the catalog page here:
https://librivox.org/entertaining-made-easy-by-emily-rose-burt/

This book provides the hostess with ideas for parties and games. There are five sections: Socials and Parties, Outdoor Affairs, Birthdays and Other Anniversaries, Announcements and Showers, and Weddings, and within each section are subcategories. Mostly antiquated, being written in the era of WW1, they do provide guidance to what was "normal back at the turn of the century. ( Lynda Marie Neilson)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/11883
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
Please select only 3 sections to read for this project so we can accommodate as many new readers as possible!

    START of recording (Intro)
Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:

For sections less than 400 words, you may use the short disclaimer that we typically use for poems.

["Section [number] of Entertaining Made Easy.. Recorded for LibriVox.org by [your name] All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain." (If you do not wish to say your name in the recording, you can just say "Recorded for LibriVox.org All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain.")
    Say:
    "[Section Title]"

For sections greater than 400 words, please use the disclaimer below.

    START of recording (Intro)
    • "Section [number] of Entertaining Made Easy. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"

"End of Entertaining Made Easy, by Emily Rose Burt."

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

Please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  8. AFTER recording
    Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
    entertainingmadeeasy_##_burt_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. entertainingmadeeasy_01_burt_128kb.mp3)

Please ignore ID3 tags, they are filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: Availle
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Are you sure with the 48 sections or is that a typo? (I only count 18, that's why.) The whole thing is less than 2 hours; with 48 sections, this is like a poetry project.
Cheers, Ava.

Hi there Ava -

I opened the book and counted the titles and I actually came up with 54 so I thought I could double some of them up and thus I came up with 48. That is how I got the number.... Do you want me to try again? You are right - some are pretty small and we could have the reader do more than one.

Well, it's your project.

But if you're going to have > 40 2-minute sections anyway, you can just as well do them all individually, no? Easier to set up too; projects with many short sections do tend to attract newbies who may be confused when it comes to "read from here to there but not until...".
Cheers, Ava.

Thanks Ava -

I did want this to be a newbies project :)

Some of the sections are longer - some are very short too. The first 4 "groups" of topics in the TOC are not listed properly - only the Wedding ones are. Not sure if you saw that or not.

Hi all -

Please do not sign up for sections until the MW is fully populated with all the titles of the sections along with their word counts.

Many thanks!

Okay, I've set this up for you, with the 48 sections you wanted. Let me know if you change your mind. :D

Since many sections are bound to be very short, you can use for these the poetry disclaimer, the full one only for longer sections. jo does this for her "Birds" projects, have a look here as to what I mean:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=81142

It would of course mean that you kinda sorta need to know what the wordcounts are, but since you intend this as a newbie project, you'll probably fill these in anyway.

Yes, Ava, I will DPL this one myself thanks!

I am familiar with books with the two different disclaimers - thanks so much for providing a sample so I did not have to go hunting in my memory or past readings!

I generally do enter word counts for my books - I like that when I read books so I do it for others :)

I appreciate you setting up the MW for me!

Have a great day!

Hi Ava -

You were right - please remove the last 6 sections - I was successful in partnering up more of the short sections than I expected...

Thanks Lynda! For the sections that are fewer than 400 words, we don't have to say anything about the work being in the public domain?

This should go into the end of the recording for very short sections:

"End of section [number]. This recording is in the public domain"

Nice catch!
Cheers, Ava.
