Short Story Collection 91 by Various ( - ).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/short-story-collection-91-by-various/

This is the 91st short story collection, with stories selected and read by Librivox readers. We brush with science fiction in The Marching Morons by Cyril M. Kornbluth and on the ghostly with Guy de Maupassant's An Uncomfortable Bed, in addition to stories by the ever-popular Lord Dunsany, Leo Tolstoy and Edgar Allan Poe.

Good afternoon -

I just uploaded the following:

Title: Bizeban by Mór Jókai (a.k.a. Maurice Jókai) (1825 - 1904) translated by Louis Felbermann
Text URL: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/34574/34574-h/34574-h.htm#BIZEBAN
Duration: 18:30
MP3 URL: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/ss091_bizeban_dwd_128kb.mp3

Comment: The author is listed in the Librivox catalogue as "Mór Jókai", but in the actual Gutenberg text, his name has been "anglicized" as Maurice, which is why I put both names in the above blurb.

Section 1 "Bizeban" Pl OK
I don't suppose there is any chance this was all made up just for the story?

Thanks, Cheryl! Yes, I think it was a clever take on a partially historical event. I believe there was an Ottoman Grand Vizier named Raghib who was put to death by Mehmet II. I thought it was pretty clever, although I feel that the translator inaccurately rendered a couple of the Arabic terms, but I remained faithful to the text.

uploaded Parts 1 and 2 of The Marching Morons
The original story was well over one hour, so I split it.
I hope that's OK.

Yes, that’s the case with a lot of sci-fi. You do know there’s a sci-fi collection?

Sci-Fi collection....
I should have guessed that there would be one, but I saw this short story as a "Come-uppance" story without the other-worldly components.

I'm happy to let it stay here if you're willing to have it.
