The Circus by Edwin C Ranck (1879 - 0).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-circus-by-edwin-c-ranck/
This little volume was written for no reason on earth and with no earthly reason. It just simply happened, on the principle, I suppose that "murder will out." Murder is a bad thing and so are nonsense rhymes. There is often a valid excuse for murder; there is none for nonsense rhymes. From the Preface to Poems for Pale People, A Volume of Verse By Edwin C. Ranck.
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.

Set your recording software to:
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording. If this is your first recording, you'll also find this Newbie Guide to Recording useful.
Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
The Circus by Edwin C Ranck, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal URL.]
Then read the poem:
O, the circus parade! O, the circus parade!
It lays all the politics back in the shade,
And the merchants forget that they've got any trade,
While many remember they've never been paid
As they rushed out to look at the circus parade;
And preachers who used to be terribly staid
Yell just like boys at the circus parade.
Every one's there, both the mistress and maid,
All looking on at the circus parade.

And out at the grounds, when you've seen the parade,
How delicious it is to drink pink lemonade;
And look at the elephant twirling his trunk,
And laugh at the capers cut by the monk;
Watch the old clown who is acting a dunce,
And try hard to see three rings going at once;
Gaze at the ringmaster cracking his whip,
And watch the tight-rope artist skip.
I saw that circus, Yes Sirree!
Saw about enough for three.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:
File name - all in lowercase: circus_ranck_your initials in lowercase_128kb.mp3
(e.g. circus_ranck_klh_128kb.mp3 )

ID3 tags (Version 2.30): ID Tags are completed during Cataloging

*Readers, please check back in a day or so for any feedback regarding your reading.

*Best to copy the filename provided above into the LV Uploader, inserting your initials of course. :wink:

Hi,

I haven't been on Librivox in months. I noticed that this is in the "new project launchpad." I thought the weekly poetry was in the "short works" thread usually. Did it get moved to the "new project launchpad" thread?

Thank you,
Ryan

Good reading Chad, but at 0:17 you've read "While many remember they'll never be paid"; text reads "While many remember they've never been paid" :wink:

Hi Ryan, by the time you see this reply, the project will be in Short Works. I did up the template a couple of days ago and rather have it buried down in Short Works I hid it out of sight and moved it to the Launch Pad while cataloging the previous poems. (I hope that makes sense)

Thank you Elise, your volume seems to fluctuate throughout the reading, have you changed something in your recording setup?
