American Leaders and Heroes by Wilbur F. Gordy (1854 - 1929).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/american-leaders-and-heroes-by-wilbur-f-gordy/

Historian Wilbur F. Gordy presents short chapters on well-known American figures from the viewpoint of the early twentieth century, including explorers, political leaders, military figures and inventors. This was intended to be a text book for children, written in easy language ( Larry Wilson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/35742
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

You are ready to go! We will wait here a day or two to see if we can pick up a DPL.

Thanks so much!
I appreciate your help.

Chapter title populated in the MW, and word counts will be up later.
(Way too late here)

Each chapter has a summary and questions for pupils.
Is it okay to omit these, or do they need to be included?

I think it will be fine to omit them, just because we are wanting the stories and the questions don't add to them, and the summaries kind of ruin them.

This was my thought, and if it is okay under LibriVox standards I will omit them, and have added a special reading note in the instructions.

Thank you.

Well, while I do appreciate your enthusiasm, there are several things you need to do first.
Start by reading the Newbie Guide to Reading. You will find the link in Point 2 of the head post of this and all projects. You really need to take the time to learn what is involved in recording and how our system works.
Then, please complete a one-minute test recording. You will find a section in the Newbie Guide on how to do that and submit it for someone to review. This is primarily to check your technical specifications and identify any issues before you take on actual recording.

Then, this is far to much for you to undertake at the beginning. These sections are not extremely long, but long enough to be a challenge for a beginner. My guess is you're looking at at least 10-12 hours of recording and editing just for these. And, I see you have requested other large chunks in other projects, and you will be in way over your head. You would do better to start with one short section to ease into recording and make sure everything is well in hand before taking on more. Then claim just what you can easily work on and complete in a reasonable time. There will never be a lack of interesting projects to read for.

So, at least get that one-minute test completed and approved, then visit this again and I will be glad to sign you up for one section and take it from there. I think this is reasonable and will get you off to a good start.

Of course if you are already an experienced recording artist, you can get off to a faster start, but make sure you understand the LibriVox system and what you are committing to.
