Weird... by the author's admission, De Soto's claim to fame is the discovery of the Mississippi and yet Gordy describes the fact in just one sentence.
Thank you!

Nice reading - and yes, it is odd that the author did not elaborate on the actual discovery of the Mighty Mississippi.

It will always astonish and sadden me to hear about the egregious treatment of native peoples when the Europeans first arrived in this country.

Two tiny things on this section:
4:55 them
6:39 them

Thank you for your recording.

It looks as if you've missed some of the chapter though.
See the PL Notes above.

Make the additions and corrections and upload your file again with the same file name and post the link here with the new length.

Hi, I'm confused as to what my missing paragraph at 4:11 is. I see a picture caption, but I can't find any text that I'm missing.

Thanks for the help,
Michael

The text that is missing is this:
When Smith fully grasped the situation he threatened the Indians with death, and then finding himself surrounded by hundreds of hostile warriors, he boldly seized Powhatan's brother by the scalp-lock, put a pistol to his breast, and cried, "Corn, or your life!"

Even though this is repeated in the caption, it is still part of the text and should be read. If it was only a caption, then we would leave it out.

That text also comes later; it's a paragraph in the middle of page 52, where it makes sense to the story. Stuck right after a paragraph about the dire conditions of the initial settlement, it makes little sense, especially when the character of John Smith hasn't been introduced yet. I can read it if you would like, but it screw up the story a little... :help: :?

Well, let me jump in here.

I agree with you, Michael. The author, or more likely the illustrator, grabbed that part of the text and incorporated it as part of the illustration, and the ebook creator then rendered it as text for the reader. So, I think it is best to omit it here for the audio format.
