Well, it looks as if there is one section left.
Would you mind if I read Section 1?

Thanks for these, Alan. We have had bluebirds nesting in a box in our yard. They are among my favorite birds so we were happy when they moved in and have been enjoying their comings and goings.

Very nicely read!ashbyag wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 10:54 am Section 16 (4:20): https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/birdsmar1897_16_various_128kb.mp3
Just a couple of technical issues that need attention.
1). The bit rate is incorrect. This is ~103 kbps (variable) and we require 128 kbps constant
This can be adjusted when you export the file
2). The volume is too low at only 84.4 dB. Our target is 89 dB with an acceptable range of 86-91 dB.
In Audacity you can use the Amplify feature in the Effect menu to amply it 4 or 5 dB.
Upload the corrected file under the same name and post your link here again.
Let us know if you need help with any of this.
Thanks again for the nice recording of this section.

Hi ashbyag,
I didn't realize that this was your first recording since you were already in the reader database.
Please have a look at the NewbieGuideToRecording if you haven't already done so.
If you are using Audacity:
You set the bitrate at the bottom of the export window under Format Options.
Bit Rate Mode: Constant
Quality - select 128 kbps from the dropdown
To increase the volume, first try increasing the mic input volume either in Audacity or in the Sounds and Audio section of the Control Panel. This adjustment will also help increase the signal to noise with regard to the background.
To judge whether you have the volume set correctly, your waveform in Audacity should look similar to this example:
Detailed instructions for adjusting your input levels can be found here:
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Setting_Recording_Input_Level
You can download the checker program to check your volume after exporting to mp3 and before you upload your file.
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker
If you prefer you can use the Replay Gain plugin in directly in Audacity to tell you how much your file needs to be amplified to get to 89 db. Instructions here:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity
If you can't adjust your input volume to reach the target 89 db, then, as Larry noted you can to use the Effect:Amplify to actually amplify the file. Important: be sure the box to allow clipping is not checked! This will however also similarly increase the level of any background noise present.
