I am beginning to have second thoughts about Tao Te Ching Cha. 11. Translating poetry from one language to another, and keeping any semblance of meter or structure is difficult enough, but keeping the essential meaning is nearly impossible. This comes the closest I can find, in those translations which are in Public Domain. See what you think.

Thanks
Dale
Poetry comes in all shapes and sizes, so a translation can have its own character, but my second thoughts are about the eligibility of the text. I try to stay away from anything post 1925 that is not cleared by gutenberg.org. Is this translation published in the public domain by a publishing house?
(because our text policies about what texts can be recorded https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Recording_%26_Text_Policies exclude self-published works)

Hi,

I am new here, and I was wondering if this collection accepts very short poems in Latin. :?:

I have submitted a couple which may be appropriate for this period.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ode Eleventh, from the First Book of Odes, by Quintus Horatius Flaccus (65 BCE - 8 BCE)
Text URL: http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/9646/pg9646.txt
Duration: 1:33
MP3 URL: https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/spc204_liberprimuscarmenundecimumquintushoratiusflaccus_le_128kb.mp3

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Carmen Fifth, by Gaius Valerius Catullus (c. 84 BCE - c. 54 BCE)
Text URL: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/23294/23294-0.txt
Duration: 1:37
MP3 URL: https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/spc204_carmenquintumgaiusvaleriuscatullus_le_128kb.mp3

If these are not suitable for this collection, can someone kindly advise if there is a better place where they can be submitted? :help:

Hello Liber! Welcome to Librivox! It's exciting to have some poetry in Latin.

This poetry collection is for poems in English, but there is a multilingual collection where you can submit these recordings. Here's the link viewtopic.php?f=60&t=77116

Hi Rapunzelina --

So I have looked at several Public Domain translations of Chapter 11, and I don't really like any of them. Please withdraw my submission.

Sorry

Hi,

I have read Giosuè Carducci's Hymn to Satan, as translated by Frank Sewall.

The translator tries to maintain the rhythm of the original text in Italian, and I have tried to read it accordingly.

Rapunzelina-

I made an error in the title of section 47. It should be “War Song of the Saracens” (plural).
