Rhymes of Childhood by Edgar A. Guest (1881 - 1959).

Volunteers outside the USA: Edgar A. Guest died in 1959. His work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1954).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/rhymes-of-childhood-by-edgar-a-guest/
Not nursery rhymes, but poems about different scenes of childhood. Poems about Grandpa, Grandma, story time, castor oil, “Wait till your pa comes home”, and many more! ( TriciaG)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    .
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    .
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1 month of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after one month, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the one month deadline.
    .
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/rhymesofchildhoo00gues
    .
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
    .
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: Special: Standard plus noting errors in reading that affect rhyme or meter.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Section 1 should be good.

Give it a listen and let me know if I need to do it again.

Thank you!

When you post a section, please also post the file duration, mm:ss. This one's 2:10. ;)

It's good!

Only issue is you say the book name wrong right at the start: you have "rhymes and childhood." You say it correctly later on; if you want, you could cut and paste the version from 0:15 to 0:02, or patch in a new recording there.

And here is section 2

Duration: 02m22

I will fix section 1 for you right away.

Edit: Section 1 should be good to go now:

Do I need to resend the Url to you? or does reuploading upload over the old one?

Uploading renames the old file, so that the link always goes to the newest file. But I think it's good practice to post the URL, anyway. :)

Sections 1 and 2 PL OK. Thanks!

Welcome! I'll pencil you in for those. Be sure to do the 1-minute test (and get it OK'd) before starting in on these. :) It's to make sure your settings are all correct - a "tech check" of sorts.

How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname or forum name, some their real name) and a link to a personal web site or blog, if you have one. I recommend using whatever name you say (if any) when you say, "recorded by [your name]" as that's how listeners will look for you. (Keep in mind that prospective employers, classmates, enemies, etc. can also find you using the catalog name, so be cautious if privacy might be an issue.)
