and section 30 is totally PL ok. I loved the "carousel" poem. It's only an excerpt, right ? Is it a long poem ? If you find a good source you could do it for the multilingual project.chulsky wrote: ↑June 12th, 2020, 1:36 pmhttps://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/silhouettes3_30_aykhenvald_128kb.mp3 [30:56]

Gofman sounds very German as name, similar to Hoffmann. Maybe German ancestors ? Excellent chapter again, we should have more of his poetry, he is not in our database yet.And another one; now all poets, except the last one!

Found two small cuts to make:
> at 16:31: (p. 248) in this poem there is a line missing and you say "пауза полторы секунды" if I'm not mistaken. You forgot to cut that out
> at 19:33-19:35: (p. 249) between "уверял он" and "Это, конечно", you are coughing, this could be cut out
thanks

He is not well presented in PD, and this is not my kind of poetry. There is some Балтрушайтис in LV:
https://librivox.org/portraits-of-russian-poets-by-ilya-ehrenburg/ Sec. 6, but he too is hard to find in PD.
Interestingly, I cannot find his Carousel in PD, but Eichenwald quotes it in it's entirety. OTOH, he often quotes from memory and changes some words. Do you think it would be okay to use Y.E. as a PD source for LV poetry?
Ahhhh! Getting waaay too scatter-minded . Fixed:cuts to make:

And here is a really good poet (the following two would be no less great):

oh interesting, his father aus Austrian, but he seems to have been brought up in Russia.chulsky wrote: ↑June 16th, 2020, 3:07 pmAbsolutely! Гофман is just a Hoffman transcribed in Rus. Many Гофман's are russified, some are Jewish, but this one is a real German:

I always wondered why the German 'H' sound is so often transcribed as 'G' in Russian. I would have thought the Russian 'X' sound would come a bit closer to the German sound, although more raspy.
you could check with a non-PD version whether the poem is accurate. But yes, we can use this source, since you are using it already for this project I thought the poem would be longer for some reason.Interestingly, I cannot find his Carousel in PD, but Eichenwald quotes it in it's entirety. will probably check the other two sections tomorrow. I have a bit of a headache at the moment. Need to rest.

This group project: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=80295 is full, but there should be a continuation. OTOH, it would be full of obsolete vocabulary, and the source book is in blurred old Cyrillics.
Or you could make a submission for the next (25th!) multilingual project, it should start any moment.
If you prefer to start from PL in Russian, I'd be happy to invite you for my next poetry project. I think, for a beginner, poetry is easier to PL.
Just let me know what your interests are
Sonia, here is my next section, https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/silhouettes3_34_aykhenvald_128kb.mp3 [38:10]
It's tricky:
1. There is a lot of poetry; that made it shorter than I expected, therefore just one part instead of declared two.
2. At one point there are two lines of text in reverse order, don't get perplexed
3. Gumilev's death is presented with a lot of symbolism, but little substance, because at the time of writing it was believed he was shot by Bolsheviks for participation in a contra-revolutionary plot. Y.E. couldn't know the plot never existed, all the charges were trumped-up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagantsev_conspiracy.
Mark Chulsky / Марк Чульский
thank you for the link. An interesting life, a tragic ending so many creative people lost their life in this conspiracy.chulsky wrote: ↑June 19th, 2020, 7:25 am3. I love sections with a lot of poetry Only found two small things to correct:
> at 15:48: (p. 269) here is a jump in the audio, and the two underlined words are missing: "Если понимать под дворянством некоторую категорию, некоторую уже достигнутую и осуществленную ступень человеческого благородства"
> at 19:36: (p. 271) "Ждать спокойно его суда" - you turn it around "спокойно ждать". I know it doesn't change the meaning, so it's up to you how accurate you want poetry to be read. I must agree though that your version is rhythmically better you enhance the poetry
Thanks, and have a nice weekend !

Sec. 34 is up for spot-PL:

The Akhmatova essay is even more enigmatic than the Gumilyov's one. Some background:
Gumilyov was Akhmatova's husband. The son mentioned in the essay is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lev_Gumilyov .
Akhmatova lived in poverty and wrote excellent clandestine poetry through the horrific bolshevik's purges and Lev's multiple imprisonments. She became a classic and a cultural icon in her lifetime, unofficial, of course.
The mentioned books of her poetry are in PD, and I've been trying to find a woman to read them. I don't like my feeble attempts to read her poetry, but I'm curious what you think.
That's partially true, but I was even more inspired by the mobs terrorizing our citiesyou seem to have been inspired by this section about Blok to read the Scythian poem

Sections 34 and 35 are totally PL ok.
I read up about her a bit when I read the Gumilov article. A strong woman it seems. The Akhmatova essay is even more enigmatic than the Gumilyov's one. Some background:

I think your reading was very good. And I also don't think we need to have female readers to read poetry written by women. But there are many new Russian readers around right now, so you may be in luck and there is an Akhmatova fan. But there is the PD problem for European readers. We have the added restriction of "author's death +70" (I think also in Russia, if I am not mistaken) and Akhmatova died only in 66, so she is not dead yet for 70 years. So only American-based readers would be eligible for that project at the moment. The mentioned books of her poetry are in PD, and I've been trying to find a woman to read them. I don't like my feeble attempts to read her poetry, but I'm curious what you think.
So, we are nearing the end, I see only one section left Let's finish this !!!
