The Mute Singer, a Novel by Anna Cora Mowatt Ritchie (1819 - 1870).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/the-mute-singer-by-anna-mowatt-ritchie/

Sylvie de la Roche is the daughter of a destitute former nobleman and his wife living in the slums of Paris circa 1847. Her magnificent singing voice is discovered by the irascible, but equally impoverished, old musician, Maître Beaujeu. Under his guidance and training, she is well-prepared when an opportunity comes for her to sing with the great tenor, Lablanche. Overnight, aristocrat patrons are all at her feet – in particular a very intriguing young nobleman and his lady companion. On the eve of her greatest triumph, though, Sylvie loses her wondrous contralto voice. Will it ever be recovered? ( Kelly S. Taylor)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Alex,

I haven't added you to the project yet. The workflow system keeps timing out presumable due to heavy internet traffic at archive.org.

Alex,

OK I have added you to the database as a PL. You will need to set up a password for access to the workflow system so you can enter your PLing notes and change status in the section compiler which then appears in the "Magic Window" in the top post. Here are some links to detailed instructions for logging into the system and setting a password the first time, as well as for entering and editing information in the section compiler.

First Time Logging in to the Workflow

Instructions for BCs and DPLs

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.

If you have any questions, let me know.

PL for chapter 1:
A little faster at the beginning
“Pop” at 0:20
Pop at 6:36
Stumble at 6:57
Stumble at 28:16
The rest is good!
I’m posting this here because I can’t access the section compiler... when I click the drop down menu on Projects it shows Projects and Section Compiler. I click on the Section Compiler button and nothing happens :hmm:

Go up to the top post of this thread. Directly under the Magic Window is a link for BC Admin. If you are logged into the workflow it will take directly to this project's section compiler. If not logged in, you will get the login screen for the workflow system.

If you login directly to in the workflow system, the page that opens should be a list of your projects as either BC or DPL. To access the section compiler from there, click on the little magnifying glass icon in the column titled SC to get to the section compiler for the project.
