Hey! Are you still after a number 12?

If so I'd be interested contributing The Worm of Lambton from this: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/47408

It's a tale from my neck of the woods.

Thanks!
Hey, there! I didn't want it to trip you out that what used to be section 12 is now a different number. In non-collection regular book projects, the sections don't move around like that. But for this project, you won't be putting the section number in the file name, so it's all good. :)

Help us finish:

Thanks, Lynne :)

Also, I just wrote another note to danQ about his PD-questioned offering. I linked the page of the discussion for him, where all the information is about what Anne passed on. I also told him he'd have a spot on the next collection if he comes back and it is actually PD for him (or if he wants to read another selection).

And now I'm going to go release that section here so that someone can take it for us.

Aw, and 12 is my lucky number! (I'm kidding, it's totally fine - I hadn't realised they were alphabetical, makes sense!)

07:44 (and 59 seconds which is weirdly irritating - not sure if you'd count that as 07:45)

Hope this is ok, and thanks for having me!

:D Well, if 12 is your lucky number, let's put you back in there! - (+at least until this is cataloged)

Hey, this is a great reading! You're a natural! Super glad you contributed.

The only PL Note is that the background noise is pretty high. If you would like to fix that, and you're using Audacity, open the track and highlight a good chunk of the final silence time. In the pull-down menu for Effects, select Noise Reduction, then click on "Get Noise Profile." - - - Next, hit control-A to highlight the entire track, and re-open Noise Reduction. - - - I'd suggest using these numbers in the variable boxes: Noise Reduction 12, Sensitivity 6, Frequency smoothing 3 - - - Click OK, and let it do its thing. :)

Then re-export to mp3 and re-upload, with a post here that it's waiting for me.

And, hey! I'm thinking that these get alphabetized because the Archive file system puts them in file name order (but Lynne would have to verify that hypothesis of mine). If that's so . . . if you remove that "the" from the front of your file name when you re-export, you have a great chance of keeping section 12 even for cataloging!

That's right, and you should always leave out 'the' or 'a' at the beginning.
But also sometimes I'm sneaky ( ) and edit file names at cataloguing.

New version - higher noise cleaning at suggested levels, and adapted title to drop 'the'

I love that you've kept me as 12

Although I now feel like there's a challenge for someone to find a myth/legend starting x/y/z and push me out that last spot!

Thanks for being nice about the recording too ^_^ I only joined last week and am having so much fun!

Wow! Masterful directions reading, Mack. :) Thank you so much for having everything lined up fully, from file name to Reader name. And Welcome to LibriVox. :)

By the way, here is your Reader Page: Mack Hopper.
You can see that it lists every book project you are a part of, both in-progress and complete. It also has a link to lists of all the Reader and/or ProofListener sections that are assigned to you. Very handy!

Now, PL Notes: This is a FANTASTIC first submission! The file is Checker passed, no background noise issues, no editing issues. Your pacing and tone are excellent, no plosive troubles - you're a natural! (I had to train myself to slow way down.) The only thing you could possibly improve at all is to perhaps record just a notch higher. Your volume here is totally within our range at 87db, but some people have trouble hearing all the reading on their devices at the low end of our range. 89-90db is better for those folks. However, it's nothing to sweat about at all, and certainly does not need to be changed here!

So, Section 11 is PL OK

Thank you so very much for this contribution, and I hope to see you around LV here and there. :)

And that's a wrap!! :9:

Lynne, I think I got everything entered into the metadata now, and since I hadn't heard back from the reader regarding the noise control on the one file, I fixed that. Should be ready to go.

Oh, geez, Lynne - I totally forgot to edit out the summary. Is it possible to switch things now that it's already catalogued? If so, let's just use this:

This collection is dedicated to recordings of short mythical or legendary works which are in the Public Domain. The stories tell of legends, heroes, myths, and ancient lore from many different cultures. - Summary by Lynette Caulkins

Also, Tricia said the first section comes up at only 81db. Which is weird, because Aisling did increase the db and resubmit the file at 86. Is that another thing we can do something about, or do we just call it what it is?

Thanks :)
